Statistical Correlation between Internet listeners and Terrestrial listeners?

Hello, I am new to the forums and am hugely appreciative for all of the information contained here.

I am employed at a small market radio station and am trying to determine if there is any correlation between online/Internet listeners and local/OTA terrestrial listeners. Our Internet stream has been hugely popular (for us) in recent weeks and we would love to know if the hard numbers that we can see from our stream log can be in any way abstracted to our local market.

From my understanding, when you are rated and a listener receives a ratings book, that single person is sampled as a larger number of your local market. Will the same hold true for Internet listeners? So 5 stream listeners could correlate to 1500 terrestrial listeners?

Thanks!

Jason

Welcome ashore my friend :)

I would think INTERNET STREAMS would generally always have more traffic due to being able to listen ANYWHERE opposed to just a small area (On the radio)

I don't know if there is a certain pattern between Internet Listener count and Terrestrial Listener count. However, I believe the count of Internet Listeners is much more accurate.

Jason,

Can you quantify what you mean when you say your streaming has been hugely popular? Especially if you really only have 5 concurrent stream listeners. If you are attempting to develop a media kit that abstracts 300 OTA is equal one local streamer you could be making a big stretch to potential advertisers.

A lot depends on the services provided by your stream service and the amount of data they can provide to you about unique listeners, locations and time listening. How many concurrent listeners are allowed? Are you at capacity? Are listeners turned away when you reach listener capacity? When do they listen and how long do they listen?

Stream statistics have their own value. Time of Day, Total Uniques, Total Time Listening, and Concurrent Listeners can tell advertisers when and what to advertise.
