Status of 97.9 FM?

I was at the All-Access site this morning, since this site was down, and read my 70 unread updates. Entered WPKX to see what turned up and they had a story that the new WPKX would possibly flip to sports. Nothing definite but unless the new 'PKX goes to Fox Sports, then one can only presume that the current lineup on WPOP would flip to WPKX. What would replace sports on WPOP?

Sports on 97.9 must mean Rush is staying on WTIC. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see Clear Channel sell it, probably to a Godcaster or a leased ethnic broker, since AM is a sinking ship in the money demographics. If it holds on to 1410, I wouldn't be surprised to hear syndicated rightist talk -- with second- and third-tier talent -- there.

CC won't have 2 sports stations in one market, but even if 97.9 goes sports and 1410 changes I don't think they'll flip from ESPN to FOX Sports. There's no way ESPN would want to be without an affiliate in their home-market.

Anyway let us see what happens Thursday. December 1st was the day KIX gave on its Facebook page a couple weeks ago that they'd be going solo on 100.9 FM.

How many right wingers need to be on in one market? How many Godcasters or ethnic brokered stations can one market support?

Right wing talkers will always draw advertiser support because Corporate America is largely right wing, and listener support because right wing hosts are by and large more entertaining than their liberal counterparts, who tend to come across as whiny or pedantic. Truth doesn't matter; this is entertainment, and Limbaugh's playground bully act is certainly entertaining to his fans and infuriating in a pro-wrestling villain sort of way to his detractors.

Godcasters and brokered ethnic stations don't even have to worry about ratings. They sell airtime to entities that target specific demographics who may not have much money to spend but are willing to spend a large portion of what they do have on (in the case of the Jesus hucksters) the promised salvation of their souls or (in the case of leased ethnic) goods and services, regardless of quality, advertised in their native tongue, largely from mom-and-pop operations. It's not great listening for people outside the targeted groups, but these formats are proven cash cows. I wouldn't be surprised to see AM dominated by them within the next five years; that's about how long it took shortwave to reach its current state.

True in most cases, however I think there are some people in Boston who are finding out that's not definitely true in every market.
