STAY HARD GREGGO!!!!!

Nate and Greggo on air together?

That will make an interesting choice for advertisers...

"Yeah hi (fill in name of advertiser here) are you the company advertising your product on the show featuring a convicted felon and an admitted drug user? Really, I think the very straight laced folks at my church wil be interested in hearing that..."

I'm sure there's some companies that won't care, but I also bet a number of companies are going to be very hesitant about associating themselves in any way with a show like that.

Big Newt and Hambonita will be an interesting paring for ESPN, If they've both cleaned their acts up and are behaving, it'll be a 1000x better than what OGW and Corby are offering up in drive time.

So what exactly does 'a 1000X better" actually translate into?

Do you think they'll beat them in the ratings? In revenue? Or is that (100x better) content-free hyperbole that doesn't actually 'mean' anything, but it sounds good on a message board?

Because i''m thinking that between Greggo's lack of in-depth knowledge of anything besides baseball, and Nate's obvious football heavy knowledge, the 2 of them are going to have a hard time doing serious hard-core sporttalk 3 or 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

And if they don't do hard-core sportstalk, and mix in "lifestyle talk" (although lifestyle talk for those 2 will probably consist of comparing what their favorite addictions are (or were) ) they're not really being true to what ESPN is supposed to be about, right?

And that's what kills me about people complaining about the Hardline (or the Ticket in general) not talking enough sports. ESPN has been in the market for what, almost a decade? And while the ticket is top 5 25-54, #1 men 25-54 (IIRC) ESPN doesn't even make the top 20 (according to the list DE posted last week)...

You'd think that if enough people hated E-News, fake characters and the like, and loved serious sportstalk, that the ratings would reflect that. I wonder why it doesn't?

little1, hence why I dont listen to the "sorta-hardline" these days. I dont mind some chocolate humor in my sports peanut butter, just got tired of hearing rhyner/corby promoting their side interest every other breath(who cares about Petty Theft). Im willing to give greg and big newt a listen, see what they can produce. If they survive the initial book(s), I'll be happy for them, no doubt.

If it does happen I don't see how they will ever be able to take any on air calls. The P1's will shtick them to death.

My question is if you have Nate and Greggo teamed together who's the main host? While a vital early part of the hard line's success he was not able to carry hosting duties. If anybody remembers the "ALLLLRIIIGGGHHHTTT!" episode from Ticket history they know what I mean.

As the hardline developed Greggo became less and less vital to the ensemble of Corby and Danny and Mike. Perhaps that was his growing dependency on substances but in the latter years Greg became more of an ill-timed, self-parodying punchline unto himself and not much of a contributor to anything of substance.

Nate surely can't be the lead dog in this pairing. Somebody has to be the "radio guy" in the equation and neither fits IMO.

Strange.

Just to address little1's post.....

KESN launched April 2001 so it has been around for 7 years not quite a decade.

Fall 2007 P12+
#13- KTCK .4 rating 2.8 share 302k cume
#19- KESN .3 rating 2.0 share 337k cume

KESN outcumes the Ticket by 35k

Men 25-54 M-F 6a-7p
#1 KTCK 1.6 rating 6.9 share 154k cume
#5 KESN .9 rating 3.8 share 164k cume

So, based on Fall numbers KESN is in the Top 20 for P12+ and top 5 for Men...the #2,#3 and #4 stations are all hispanic AND they out cume Ticket in both demos.

To add to this....based on Fall book KESN is UP (1.8 to 2.1 and 3.2 to 3.5) year to year in A-25-54 and M 25-54 yet the Ticket is down year to year ( 3.9 to 3.7 and 6.5 to 6.0) WITH the Cowboys on the air. Starting to see a down trend at The Tciket...yet they obviously are still strong.

Winter trend phase 1
12+
KESN 1.9 share up from 1.7
KTCK 2.6 share down from 3.0

CUME KESN 327k KTCK 280k

18+
AM drive KESN 3.4 to 3.4 KTCK 7.2 to 5.2
PM drive KESN 4.2 to 4.7 KTCK 7.6 to 5.7

I have to say not too bad considering they have been on air 7 years...not sure but I think Ticket has been on 14-15 years, love to see what their numbers were in year 6-7.

KESN actually has MORE listeners CUME wise...they just do not stay and listen as long as the Ticket. Certainly good to have 2 Sports stations in the market that are doing well especially in a down radio market.

Thanks

I have to say....Greggo and Nate could be a tough listen!

I miss the Hammer on Hardline....like Nate on GAC but together. OUCH.

I'll certainly give a listen

Here's my 2 questions/comments - how much of that cume (if any) is attributable to mavs broadcasts?

2- if they outcume them you'd have to wonder why they don't stick around and listen longer. Looks like people just don't find the serious hard core sports talk that entertaining. They pop in, check it out, but if they're not interested in the subject, they punch out. Fair charecterization?

Not sure how Mavs helped with cume but certainly did not help Ticket having Cowboys.

Just wanted to make sure the data was acurate...everyone rants about how Ticket kicks ESPN's butt...not true

But aren't you cherry picking data to prove your point? So ESPN outcumes KTCK. Last time I checked the formula was cumexTSL=ratings. So the fact that they outcume The ticket doesn't mean much. I mean, if life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. But still doesn't it come down to Ticket #1 and ESPN #5? Sure they're doing a lot better than a ton of other stations, but they're still getting their butt kicked in format, aren't they?

Hey little1...no, I really didn't cherry pick data, I gave it all.

P12+, M18+, M25-54...ratings, share and cume. I simply said that ESPN out cumes the Ticket. Ticket kills in ratings...the question I have does anyone listen 8+hours a day like the Ticket listeners? Their TSL is crazy....Ticket does a great job of getting listeners to write all those hours in diaries.

Hey...bottom line is Dallas is lucky in that we have 2 good sports stations in the market...something for everyone.

Can't we all just get along! ;)

Man, lots of Greggo references on the Hardline nowadays, none of them too kind. They are even using his drops, even though they sound like the chipmunks.
