Steelers Pre Game-Stan Savaran

I was listening to the Steelers pre game on the way home from church and heard Stan Savaran doing part of the show around noon on DVE. Curios to know if he is working in other capacities at Clear Channel Pittsburgh or is he employed by the Steelers.

Should be interesting to hear him on Maddens show. I wonder if he will do the Pirate Pre/Post game shows on 104.7 next year. Nothing against Rocco but I think Stan would do a better job with the post game call in show.

Especially since the supergenius used to regularly dis Stan on his show on the worldwide leader. Of course, there was a time when they were competing against one another in the time slot. The contempt, though, was palpable.

...and its still there. Stan understands how the game works and in the middle of this economy can swallow large portions of his pride for the paycheck. Everyone in the biz has done it once or twice.

And no, Stan isn't doing anything with the Pirate broadcasts this year. He's doing pre-game for FSN for the Pirates and Penguins.

No offense to Greg Linelli, but Stan does bring a strong aura of professionalism and
credibility to the post-game show.

Stan is very credible talking about pro football. I can't remember, which NFL team did he play for?

OK...to prove the inverse point....Bill Fralic on the Pitt ISP broadcasts.
Has anyone, whether he actually played the game or not, ever sounded worse
or less professional? And he has worked in Atlanta, a Top 10 market!

There's a difference between sounding good and sounding credible. Sounding good means you have clear diction and pronounce all the words correctly. Being credible means you know what you're talking about.

And I'm not saying that someone has to be an ex-football player to be a credibly football commentator or analyst. I'm only pointing out that the apparent hero-worship of some local sportscasters sometimes is incredible.

Fralic owns an insurance business in the Atlanta area. This is his first attempt at radio. So far he is the only ex player that Bill Hillgrove has not been able to turn into at least a decent broadcast presence.

And Fralic's "attempt" at radio for the Panthers has been ongoing since 2004.
