Speaking of political satire, the longrunning Canadian _TV_ show (but was
for radio on years) Royal Canadian Air Farce spoofs new PM Stephen
Harper as a robot who can obliterate opponents with his death-ray eyes.
One ad spoof showed statements from the top 3 candidates (Harper,
Martin, and the Bloq Quebecois guy, I think) giving statements on
a newfangled device...the "Lie-Pod". In the past cast members have played
W (Roger Abbott) and Clinton (Don Ferguson). Various real-life Canadian
politicians have appeared on the show, including outgoing PM Martin
and Preston Manning, leader of the Reform Party (which later became
part of the Conservatives). Cast member Ferguson frequently said the
catch phrase "I love that word Refoooooooooooooooooooooorm!"

Kind of like a Canadian "That Was the Week That Was"

You know that car commercial: 4-wheel drive; that's all I'll drive?
Stephanie Miller's show is just about the only thing on radio I'll listen to for its entire three hours nowadays. (Previously I'd listen to the Metropolitan Opera broadcast, when on WCRB, then WBOQ, but WHRB is impossible. It's true...on a couple of occasions when I REALLY REALLY wanted to hear the opera, I'd go to NYC and buy a ticket. Hmmm...if WGBH-FM were to consider adding classical hours, they should also consider The Met too.)

I agree. Great talent. A little trivia about
Stephanie - her Dad, William E Miller, was Barry
Goldwater's running mate in the 1964 Presidential
election. The GOP ticket was swamped by LBJ and HHH.

Re: Stephanie

This show has potential - however, even though I'm a fan, she goes a bit
overboard with the jokes. It becomes Stephanie Miller's Laugh In - and she might as well have Max Robbins from broadcast cable / howie carr show on yukking
it up.

When she sticks to the news, she's great. A little humor is a good thing,
but some balance, please, Stephanie.

Re: Stephanie

I couldn't agree more. Great potential but they don't know when they have milked the joke, a few days in a row and I need a week off. Keeping it fresh every day is their biggest problem.

Anyhoo, this is the Boston Board and since she is a syndicated talker from LA I don't know why this is posted here. To bring it back to Boston: does anyone know how she is doing for WKOX? I have seen the 12+ and know she is good (IMHO) but she sure isn't pulling WKOX's butt out of the sling as far as I can tell.

But that IS the show, just a complete screwball laugh riot, it's supposed to be whacky and all that stuff LOL

Um, because she's syndicated on a Boston station?

Actually, two greater Boston area stations.

Simulcasting on top of each other for the most part during the day- another post I suppose..

If you want to discuss Rush or Franken (both syndicated and available here in Boston) then the News/Talk Board seems most appropriate. If you want to discuss how they got dropped/picked-up from/by a local affiliate or their local ratings/rankings or something else with a local edge then this seems the better place to mention. Just MHO.

Glad you did, it was good to listen to her again. Her show with Jim Ward as her personal "voicemonkey" as they jokingly call Jim is a great way to mix the politics and humor. I try never to miss it.....

Nothing is as much fun when they heckle a GWB press conference.....I would not be surprised that Steph is the leading show for WKOX/WKXS and im like a total Randi Fan..but i think Boston will go even more for Steph after that upgrade we seek so badly.....
