Stephen Colbert lands post-Super Bowl slot for live 'Late Show'

Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show has snagged the cushiest timeslot in all of TV, immediately after CBS’s broadcast of the Super Bowl, marking the first time a late-night series will air live immediately after the game.

CBS today announced the special live edition of its late-night franchise, from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Sunday, February 7, suggesting optimistically it would air at 10-11 PM ET/7-8 PM PT. After Colbert’s for-the-record-books broadcast (and late local news) The Late Late Show With James Corden will air a “special Super Bowl Sunday edition,” the network added.

The announcement comes the morning after viewers of Fox Business Network’s GOP debate saw ads for Colbert and Corden’s CBS late-night programs.

Damn, I thought it would go to either "Scorpion" (Katharine McPhee would've gotten her biggest audience since "American Idol") or "Person of Interest" (which got screwed yet again).

Here's hoping for an hour-long "The Last Man on Earth" next year, when Fox will have Super Bowl LI.

It seems like a great idea...keeps the energy going with more live entertainment rather than a canned drama. And Colbert needs some promotional love in his new gig. Seems to me Letterman did a live post-Super Bowl show a few times.
