Stephen Yates back in jail!

Winning? For whom? Come on now. This isn't happy news, for anybody, least of all for Stephen.

I know he's not "popular" with a lot of people in this forum. Many people despise him and wouldn't be unhappy if he fell down in front of a bus. I'm aware of all the stuff he's done to earn that hatred, but nobody deserves the suffering he's going through. I've read all the reasons why so many people despise him, but so what? Should we put him to death by stoning in the public square? Let him who is without sin throw the first stone.

Stephen is still grieving the loss of his wife, and his life is going down the drain. I can't think of anyone who needs support and prayerful intervention more than he, even from people who hate him. I'm praying that he gets it.

it's called karma....you're either from the Yates camp or don't know his history. Old man Yates is spinning in his grave b/c Steven has ruined those once great radio stations.

Feel sorry for him if you want but the drama that seems to follow Mr. Yates is all self-induced.

I'm not from the "Yates Camp", but I've lived in Lufkin off and on for many years, and I am personally acquainted with Stephen and every detail of why he's such a hated figure in east Texas radio.

You're right in saying his problems are his own fault, but it seems clear, to me at least, that he needs help more than anyone I know.

It's sad to see so many people standing around cheering while he goes down the drain. Is no one willing to feel some pity for him and throw him a life ring?

He has had a "life-ring" his entire life. That's the problem. Steven rode daddies coat tails then ruined those radio stations. I think that's the problem is operators like him give the entire business a bad name.

Maybe Steven should sell his stations and focus on his family and himself before his downward spiral affects more people.

Life is as dark as it can get for Stephen Yates. His wife has passed on, his longtime group PD quit last year, and it appears certain that he will go to jail for violating terms of his 10 years probation.

As a convicted felon he's prohibited from managing his stations, so does anybody have any idea who is running things at the Yates Media stations?

You are right in saying it might be time for him to sell these stations and focus on getting his life under control and keeping his family together.

hi all..........newbie here, but have some passing interest in this topic. not in broadcasting, so if i misspeak terms, i apologize in advance.

i have know yates since childhood, so i have some insight into the nature of the man! as to his grieving, last i saw him he was sporting about in his new corvettte, with groupies in tow, his grief was palpable. *sarcasm*

so, onto my question. how does this effect football broadcast in lufkin? what do yall think? what should happen? what is possible?
inquiring minds want to know.................

that's a question for the Lufkin ISD Superintendent, who has a loyalty for the Yates family. Several attempts have been made on behalf of KYKS 105 have been attempted but blown off by Roy Knight with the LISD.

Can't help but think Mr. Knight would be in a good position to move Panther football to Townsquare Media.

As for Mr. Yates recent activity....is anyone surprised? Sounds grieving to me! That said I stand by my origfinal comment.

Winning!

yes, it would be a question for the lufkin isd. it appears that yates has handed them the
perfect storm of opportunity to make a change. maybe they will decide it's time
to rehab *pun intended* the football broadcast image.
is there a movement afoot to make this happen? from broadcasters view, is it technically
difficult? what would be the financial implications for yates media? thoughts?

The move would financially cripple Yates. technically it would not be a problem. Roy Knight simply has a longstanding relationship with the Yates family. IMHO....the move away is long-overdue.

oh yea. winning!
S McCoy, your sheen anology is really humorous. at least sheen is an entertaining train wreck. yates doesn't have sheen's
knack for humour. any of you radio broadcast guy's in the stadium press box, game night of october 22, 2010? if so, you
know what a "winner" is. made quite the impression about town the following week. how could they not know? must be quite the relationship, you refer to. really, were
any of you guy's there?

It is my understanding with reliable proof of two stations , Yates has stolen 3 of the 5 stations he so said owns . More recntly one of the stations owners had to file a grievence with the FCC to help to faciliate turning it off . Mr Yates has taken more than he has given from his community and others . He had no compassion for their familes or their livelyhood . He thinks he is above evryone. I do fel bad for his children. They will have to recover their families honor . They are good girls and don't deserve this at all.

music in me, not questioning your opinion of yate's having "stolen" stations. but, not being familiar
with the broadcast industry, how exactly could he have done that? could someone explain the nuances
in terms an outsider could understand?

also, is anyone here familiar with the Honorable District Judge Elizabeth Coker's court. it has been reported
on KTRE, that she will the judge for his hearing, just wondering what her general posture is regarding such
matters.

He LMA'd the station and when the LMA had reached it's term , he refused to give back the station , instead underminded the authority of the owner and filed a law suit to keep it and tried to strong arm the owner . Complicated but all of the evidence is part of a public file if you care to do the research. 101.9 was owned by a widower Verna Phillips who was going to sell the station to stephen in an LMA , but is said to have never recieved any money for it . Same with KJ 103 and KZXL . Public records are available for all to see . That is your right to be informed. Right now Who knows whose running the stations , maybe the secretary.

music in me,
thanks for schoolin' me. i just may do a little research. my understanding of LMA's is limited,
but one would think the owners, would have been able to hold on to their property, once
the terms expired. again, thanks for the education!

now, what about the Judge..........wondering how she has handled previous cases like this one?

court hearing in Polk County Monday at 9:30 am . Rumor has it he may have his probation restated . If so once again he will have beat the system. How can this be ? I shutter to think what will happen next.

You believe rumors? I hate to say this, but I fear Stephen is heading for some significant jail time. Under the law, if a person violates his probation, the judge can cancel the probation and send him to prison for the entire original sentence, in his case ten years.

That's what Stephen is facing. And this is the second time he's violated probation. The first was when he failed a drug screen back in 2007.

I'm afraid that Livingston judge is going to throw the book at him this time. She could re-instate the probation, but I don't think she will. I think she will tell Stephen that he's been given every chance to rehabilitate himself and stay out of trouble, but he's shown no sign that he's able -- or even willing -- to abide by the law and the terms of his probation, and that leaves her no choice but to send him to prison.

This is a sad sad story.
