Stern Attacking David Lee Roth, His Replacement

I see Howard Stern has been spending some time slashing David Lee Roth, who is evidently his replacement when Stern heads off to satellite radio.

I am trying to figure out why anyone would care what David Lee Roth has to say about anything? Is the male demo they are trying to reach going to be nostalgic for their hard rock/metal rebellion days of their youth?

Stern is juvenile, but at least he's good at being juvenile. I'm not so sure what Roth is bringing to the table.

Fox was reporting that many west coast stations will pick up the old "Man Show" host Adam Carolla instead of Roth.

BTW, does anyone know what the status of Imus is on the national syndication front? He was briefly carried locally here in Rochester back in the 1990s, but quickly disappeared. Now we see him on MSNBC, but is the guy still making inroads on the radio in other markets?

I have been wondering about this since it was first announced. I just have no idea what the thought process leading up to this decision was.

Or good despite being juvenile. At 51, Howard Stern seems a little long in the tooth to continue with his schtick. He's so talented, I thought his show would have matured by now.

He's been on MSNBC since 1996. I keep wondering how much longer that can go on. The 65 year professional mumbler still has enough punch to keep him going. Talkers Magazine has him currently tied for 9th on their national audience list with 3 million listeners, about the same as Laura Ingram, Doug Stephan, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly. He broadcasts on about 90 stations. Westwood One began syndicating his show in 1993.<P ID="signature">______________

That's easy--hey, we have no real imaginative programming ideas, nor do we really want to waste the time or money to do a search for good talent (even though we've known about Stern leaving for over a year), so let's put on a guy who everyone knows, but can barely speak coherent English anymore (if he ever could) just to make some easy money the first couple months.

I'm sorry, was I being cynical?

He is very talented, but he's probably gotten lazy as of late (by "as of late," I mean the last 8 years) combined with some bonehead telling him that his stripper schtick sells better than anything else he could do.

Rut radio economics.
