Stern gone soon....

Howard Stern will be done as of Labor Day weekend. It looks as if David Lee Roth will be replacing him in NYC & LA but not in any other markets. Does The Wizard in Burlington have a replacement ready to roll? Hey, Corn & the Couch could make a triumpant return to WIZN. That'd be a hoot! Is Howard in Manch-Vegas NH? There are some rough days ahead for former Stern affiliates as they try to replace the revenue.

Read the story in R&R more carefully. It says that Roth will replace Stern in NYC, L.A. and many other markets throughout the country. So I'd assume all current Stern affiliates will have the option of continuing with this new show.

However, Infinity hasn't officially commented on this yet, and it'd be rather surprising if they dumped their cash cow 4 months prior to his contract ending -- although Infinity has surprised us a whole bunch lately.

Guess the EMT thing didn't work out for DLR. He did do a morning fill-in stint a while back on WZLX in Boston, didn't get a chance to hear it but it's fair to say reviews I heard were mixed.

Clients are not re-upping because Stern will be gone. Howard even talked about this on his show. I have the article in front of me and it says "Roth would replace Stern in NYC/LA after Labor day and the other markets would have to fend for themselves".

If clients aren't re-upping, that means sales teams aren't doing their jobs. Believe it or not, Stern is a TOUGH sell, because of the controversy his show brings.

That's a direct quote from an article? That's very hard to believe. Who's the source?

Here's a portion of the text from Radio and Records (http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2005_07_06/diamonddave.asp):

Rumors that onetime Van Halen singer David Lee Roth will succeed WXRK/New York-based morning host Howard Stern in New York and in several other cities have spread furiously throughout the industry. Stern's move to Sirius in January 2006 has yielded much speculation about possible successors to the self-proclaimed "King of All Media," and the talk regarding Mr. Roth — who has been a fill-in host at Infinity stations in the past — first came to light at steppinoutmagazine.com in a piece written by Chauncé Hayden. Hayden is the publisher of Steppin' Out magazine and a frequent guest on Howard Stern's show.

The online report reads, "Howard Stern's successor has been found! It's none other than '80s rocker David Lee Roth. Infinity Broadcasting isn't commenting and Roth has been asked to keep mum until it's officially announced. But an inside source at Infinity has confirmed the signing. Roth auditioned for the job both in L.A. and Boston and got very positive feed back from listeners. Roth has been running ads in trade publications looking for a producer 'for a huge radio show.' Roth is said to be taking over for Stern in early September, three months before the shock jock's contract is due to expire."

Clients aren't re-upping their annuals for next year. The R&R article starts out with the word "rumors". The article I quoted was from the Radio Business Report, RFB. The RFB report is more definitive than speculative.

my goodness, you two fine fellaz' need to take all this sassy play out to the barn before some danty dishes get broken. and I must confess a little manly match is good for the boys and I sure would love to watch some hunky biceps in sweaty action. wink wink ;) Earlier today my big girlfriend at cc told me either way she's just happy to be back. And I must say if I wasn't so busy these days up here in Sharon I would be back at a few requests of my own. That stern reminds me of my man Bud Hill. That voice, that style. woof!

Mary ;)

Guess what? All these stories are based on the same rumor that an Infinity insider leaked the big surprise! Until Infinity or DLR confirms this, it's all rumors! WEE!

What is it with all these washed-up rock stars getting radio shows? Dee Snider was doing mornings in Hartford for a while on some altrock station, Alice Cooper has his dreadful syndicated night show, plus Danny Bonaduce & one of the Monkees had brief radio careers. There must be others that escape me immediately.

Whoa, that would mean on The Bone you'd have DLR in the morning and Alice Cooper at night! Maybe Dio could do weekends!

What an interesting on air line up idea. Besides DLR and Alice Cooper, what other rock stars have done or are doing radio? They would certainly offer a perspective that your typical jock couldn't.

Joe Walsh used to get the call to fill in for several big market (if I remember right two of the (then) prominent stations were WNEW-FM, NYC and KLOS, Los Angeles) morning shows. He was actually pretty good.
