I listened to Stern today for the first time in months. I was driving my wife's car and which does not have XM. I normally listen to O&A. Let's put it this way: I will install XM in that car this weekend!

Note, I used to think Stern was the best radio personality, ever. In the 80s and 90s, I used to send tapes to friends wo couldn't hear his shows, record the shows on WOR and on Letterman, as well as read his books. I find that the show doesn't work for me like it used to.

Yes you are right,Howard was great but ever since that very lame David Lee Roth parody when he came back from vacation I have looked at his in a different light and have stopped listening.I think he is relying on too much taped stuff and playing it over and over.
Farewell Howard I hope You don't think you and Your idiot wack pack can F-bomb your way through your satellite show without bringing anything else to the table.

As far as the MTV Unplugged show comments I wonder what he meant.
WBCN Boston has an incredible version of Springsteen's "Rosalita" from the mid to late 70's which I think is acoustic(could be wrong, correct me if I am,have not heard it in a long time.)I always assumed hearing stuff like that influenced him.

I didn't hear it... can you put it in context?

It's been widely regarded that Bon Jovi's acoustic performance of "Wanted Dead or Alive" at the 1990 Video Music Awards was the genesis of "Unplugged".

(and IMHO, one of my favorite Bon Jovi performances)

Howard claimed that HE began the band's acoustic performance thing back in his Washington days. He said he was getting raving accolades and then a year or so later Mtv popped up with Unplugged.

He also stated earlier that he was the genesis of "Best of" shows. i can't say anything in the direction of radio, maybe he was the first to play weeks upon weeks of best of tapes during his year long vacations. But in all of media? I think TV calls them "repeats" and that has been going on forever. Carson called his show "The Best of..." when he went on vacation.

Howardhas turned into a delusional, hallucinogenic geriatric. He is an imploding abomination to what he once was.

I've listened to Howard infrequently since his return from his Memorial Day 2004 vacation, when he became a leftist almost overnight..

I still think the show sufferes from the loss of Jackie Martling..Jackie knew how to write for radio, whereas Artie Lang is a mid level stand up comic who contributes little if anything to the quality of the show..

I'm wondering why Infinty has hung on till the end of the contract..especially since the first hour of the show is a blatant Sirus ad..a re cap of what happened on the ''Howard 100'' channel the night before..I would not be surprised if they just say ''screw you'' after the Thanskgiving Hiatus..and just run ''Best of''..which Infinty will still own..

Even if he gets to a final show, they've been talking about hauling the robospanker and other props starting around 8-30, and hauling it over to Sirus..which means the whole thing might end around 9am or so..

I've said on this board for over a year. He's a washed up sub par talent who talks nonsense. 500 million dollars was a Godsend to him from his slave owner Mel. Granted Mel went second, it was set up that way. Sirius can have him, they'll never get their money's worth out of him, listening to a man cover the same subjects of (BLEEP) and broads is boring and as played out as hip hop.

There's no show anymore, he's delusional, created all this crap about the government wanting to do everything but send him to the moon all for hype and promotion. He sold out and more power to him. It's not everyday such a moron gets to make the money he just made at the END of their career.

My Nominee For The Inventor of "Best-Of's"---And He's Not Howard Stern!

Considering "Best-Of's" are pretty much the same as "Reruns" (both involve programs previously heard being re-broadcast), I nominate a candidate for the inventor of reruns. And he's not Howard Stern.

My nominee for the inventor of reruns is the late radio/TV producer John Guedel. In 1947, he got Groucho Marx to agree to host a radio quiz show titled "You Bet Your Life" (which in the 1950's would become one of TV's first popular game shows). The show's season, like most radio shows of the time, was 39 weeks. During the other thirteen weeks, a replacement program would be supplied by the producer and/or sponsor of the show that filled the time period from Septemebr until June.

Since "YBYL" was recorded (in order so that either dull or off-color remarks could be edited-out of the show), Guedel successfully convinced ABC radio (where "YBYL" was originally broadcast) to re-broadcast during the Summer of 1948 what Guedel considered to be the thirteen best shows of the preceding season.

Yes, these were reruns, but they would also be promoted (both on radio, and after 1950, on TV) as "The Best Of Groucho".

In my limited viewing of the UNPLUGGED series, I would have to agree with the people who say that Elvis' 68 Comeback Special "sitdown" segment was the grandfather of the UNPLUGGED series.
