How does that make him a fraud? Bastard, maybe. Fraud? Nah. Fraud means you misrepresent yourself in some manner. He never said he liked O&A. But he didn't get them fired, or ask for them to be fired.
They were the enemy after they started p!ssing on his leg. He put the gag on them after all the crap with the divorce. Mel owed him for basically financing Infinity.
They were two of the luckiest bastards in radio, and they decided to crap on their boss-Howard.

Angry possibly due to the fact that Howie spouts lies and misrepresentations constantly and no one calls him out on it...and those who do get gag orders or shut down. It's pent up anger from years of not being able to speak the truth.
O&A get plenty of press...good or bad, they get press. They just don't have the PR Dept. at Infinity/CBS to assist in generating news.

That in a tangent kind of way was his point. Howie screamed he was the Champion of Free Speech and was anti-censorship in any way, yet he censored O&A. He said he was for censorship when it benefitted him. What is good for t he goose is good for the gander. Howie only beleives in free speech when it is HIS free speech. For Howie represent yourself as the Champion of Free Speech is totally fraudulant.

Yes he did...before they hit it "big" (right around the Boson timeframe)Howie actually had them on his show. He said they were funny and great etc etc UNTIL their Boston numbers encroached on his. Then they all-of-a-sudden turned into imitators.

They were enemies when their numbers rivaled Howie's in the Boston market

They started calling him out on his crap. yes, the divorce played into their show like it did any other DJ show that was trying to climb Mount Howie. They started laughing at his lies and trashing Robin (for all the right reasons). They were #1 in every demo they needed to be in and Howard didn't like that. They didn't like how Howie was preventing them from doing even a regular radio show (blocking guests, etc). Howie didn't take them head on like he did others like Bubba the Love Sponge. He used the only weapon he had left against them...mel K. He is a hypocrite and a fraud. Period. If the gag was purely about the divorce, then why were they blocked from getting another job? Howie doesn't like comeptition.
