STERN ON JAY THOMAS & RADIO REPORTERS! SIRIUS BUMP!

This week 92.3 WXRK's HOWARD STERN spoke about area radio reporters. I believe Stern was fair on his call on the NY POST radio guy. If you ask me, DAVID HINCKLEY, radio reporter for the NY DAILY NEWS, is the best one in town. I find his reporting to be on target.

Howie joked that he may take up radio reporting once he stops doing a show. Ok! That got a few laughs. Howie will go from making millions to making peanuts.

Stern mentioned former 99X WXLO morning man JAY THOMAS when giving ARTIE LANGE advice. Stern believes Thomas made the wrong move going to Los Angeles for the gig on MORK & MINDY (old TV sitcom). At the time I would gather Thomas wasn't making DON IMUS money. I believe Thomas made the right move. Sure, Mork & Mindy didn't last, but he still had the LA radio gig. Some folks say LA radio talent make more than talent in New York City (not counting folks like Stern & Imus). Thomas landed a gig down the road on MURPHY BROWN.

I see Thomas is listed on DON BUCHWALD's talent roster. Does Buchwald just rep Thomas when it comes to doing radio/TV commercials?

MUSICBIZ.COM mentions SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO should expect a subscriber bump in the third & fourth quarters because of their NFL deal. Wait til January 2006. I'll get Sirius once Stern goes on the satellite.

That, and Nascar in 2007. I wonder if they are going to have in-car audio like they have it on ppv? Would be interesting. And shame on you for not having Sirius now! <bg> I do and don't have to hear "It's huge!!!" from our local guys anymore. No, don't touch that one with a pole!

I agree with you that David Hinckley is the best reporter as far as covering New York radio is concerned.

Many will follow Howard Stern when he moves his program to Sirius next year but even he has admitted that not everyone will go there with him next year.

Despite what has been speculated by many on the growth of satellite radio, many people in America have not accepted the idea of paying for something they always got for free. In other words, they may not really care for what they are hearing on AM or FM but it will take years before both Sirius and XM break even in my opinion.

Sirius radio is on the verge of bankruptcy. The company is hemorrhaging money on a cosmic scale. Handing Stern $500 million is the ultimate insanity. Most people who choose cutting edge radio on satellite will go to XM's Opie & Anthony. Stern is aging rapidly and it shows.
