Stern Renews Contract Stock Up 120% this Year

I just read this piece online about Howard Stern re signing for another 5 yrs and it claimed the stock is up 120% this year from a low of $2.00 a share. Any ideas on why? I would appreciate your thoughts and comments

Stern likes to think he is the reason why Sirius is successful. He needs to take a reality check. About a million people listen to him. As for the stock, the stock market is not based on reality. If it was there would not have been the tech bubble bursting back when people were investing in companies that had nothing but an idea and nothing to show for it in the end.

By renewing, H.S. assures his financial future and keeps himself from the majority of his fans. As a friend of mine(You know who you are...) stated to me, Howard's fans will spend 12$ on beer, but not for a month of satellite radio.

I think the show has more intelligent fans then you're giving it credit for. I, personally, know a lot of people who subscribed to sirius because of Stern and they aren't drinkers.......they're smokers. (ba doomp doomp) But in all seriousness, I really don't think, as a whole, that the show, or it's fans, are as dumb as you're making it out to be. I mean, it's no Bob and Tom, but what is?

To the investors and corporations involved, the stock market IS reality. It governs their strategy, their spending, their hiring, their very existence. The fact that the numbers generated by Wall Street daily are being driven largely by gamblers out for the quick buck who have successfully gamed the system rather than sober investors with a genuine interest in what the companies they invest in produce and those companies' long-term prospects is irrelevant. You want SiriXM to stop trying to kiss up to Wall Street? Urge it to go private. Then watch it disappear.
