Steve Allen biography

I just finished reading a book on the life of Steve Allen, who founded the original Tonight show in the 1950's. It provides a lot of inside stories about how the shows were produced with comments from regulars such as Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Don Knotts, and Tom Poston. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a classic TV buff. It's entitled Inventing Late Night and the author is Ben Alba.

Steve Allen himself wrote two memoirs. The first was "Mark It And Strike It" in 1960; his second, "Hi-Ho, Steverino!" was written around 1990 and focused more on his television career.

Anyone who wants to learn more about a man who I feel is one of the most versatile performers in the history of American television is urged to read these two books.

I have read both "Hi-Ho, Steverino!" and "Inventing Late Night" and they are indeed good reads. The first one, sadly, is out of print and my library doesn't have a copy. (I am a big user of the public library.)<P ID="signature">______________
