Steve and Vikki R.I.P.

Another PD exits B 98.5.
How long do Steve and Vikki survive?
Poor ratings and old demo's.
The whispers say not very long.

We can only hope the end is sooner and not later.

I don't listen the S & V, but, looking at the Aug. ratings on this site (not the demo breakouts), WSB FM might not be the problem. It would be hard to replace S & V. Just ask 94.1. You also had control over 97.1. WSRV’s share fall from and falling cumes might be a greater concern than S & V's demos. When will they develop a Morning Show on 97. It doesn’t have to be a TRG. They could say (fill in a name) in the morning then 52 minutes of music on the not so new 97. At least do more traffic breaks. If non stop music is so important the IPod wins. 52 minutes of music is not that important when I am stuck in traffic. I find myself having to switch stations just to get a traffic fix.

Just let Kaedy talk more. That's all you have to do...

and replace them with who?
Sorry they have name value and branding there. Anybody else is starting all over and at this point, B98 needs to keep a solid name. Their faces on the new tv spot say B98 believes in their strength.

They're on top of where their audience is. Wish Rod Stadler were over there doing news with them.
Management might be a little cautious on music. I could name lots of examples but let's start with Taylor Swift...20 million downloads. It's not just teen girls who love her. B98 has never played her. Come to think of it with her wholesome values and image you'd think the Fish would be on taylor swift.
How does a station pretend to be "relevant" to today's world and miss something this obvious.
Don't respond to an attack on my one example. There are many. That's just one. But S&V don't pick the music.

I thought I was going to be reading a limerick, but.......

oh...... wait......

What's left for Steve and Vicki
When ratings get really sticky?
The PD bit the dust.
The station's bound to bust.
The whispers say it's quickie.

(What happened? I feel dizzy.... soo fast..)

B98.5 is not playing a SINGLE song in the current AC Top 20 on their playlist. Yet I just heard, of all songs, "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick. How does that make any sense?

It works...but it's just another example of how B98.5 has a really weird playlist for what is ostensibly an AC station, including lots of "lighter" AOR. I would expect less of the AOR since River is now (yes, now--remember, River is still NEW) an alternative sister and fits their format better.

Don't think the "new" branding flies over everyone's heads, either. In the past two weeks, I've been asked twice why The River still calls themselves "new."

Paul Ciliano was still PD when Steve and Vikki were brought on. They were brought on out of fear that a new AC would launch with them on it. It was a move to stomp out possible new competition. There was a big risk. This was why B98.5 brought on Delilah right after the 94.9 flip.

B98.5's demo is 25-54. Star 94's (and Q100's) demo is 18-34. Steve and Vikki were fired from Star because of this. Their show outgrew the demo Star was aiming at.

Steve and Vikki will be at B98.5 for the foreseeable future. Only if Cox goes public on the stock market again (and spending money becomes an issue) will they be out of a job.

The new PD was an outside of the box thinker, while Cox is a play-by-the-rules operation. Sounds like a classic textbook case of culture clash. I know someone (not in broadcasting) who moved across the country for a job, only to get fired because of this.

A lot of radio people are out on the street as we speak. Steve and Vikki's predecessors Kelly and Alpha are still looking for work. There should be no shortage of people for the job. I suspect whoever is chosen will play by the rules in order to eat. Meanwhile, I hope Mr. McHugh finds a new job soon.
