Steve Bartelstein fired from WABC

Steve Bartelstein fired from ABC7

Apparently he was sleeping in his office and slept right through a newsbreak.

On an important story -- the 3-alarm fire in the Bronx that killed 10 children. It was the worst fire in NYC since the Happy Land Social Club burned down.

Actually it was just a GMA cut in, but the big story was the fire in the Bronx.

I believe you're referring to the stories of subway toll clerks sleeping on the job. Some fares shot pics of them zzz-ing away on their cellphones and sent them into the News. Front page hilarity.

I remember watching Bartlestein in his early days in Wilmington, NC and Charleston, SC. He definitely had a cheesy side to him even back then, but bet your bottom dollar he'll wind up back on his feet before you know it...

Well I guess that what that [EDIT]gets for sleeping on the job. Very unprofessional, and I hope WABC replaces him with some one more classy and gravitas.

Whoa, man, what's with the profanity? I didn't know that a news anchor sleeping on the job can get someone so riled up (unless it's his boss).

I shouldn't have used foul language, but I'm not going to back down from my stance...Bartelstein remains unprofessional for sleeping on the job the sad part is he'll get a job elsewhere but hopefully he'll realize the errors of his ways and also learn to be kind to people who ask for autographs...

Ah, so that's what it was...
