Steve Blow; Shut Up!

There is a difference in reporting and over the top melodrama. Weather people seem to be blurring that line here the last few years. It started with the Weather Channel and their hurricane reporters.
 
That's a subjective topinion.

Look at it this way; these stations ditching regular programming to cover severe weather, are fullfilling an obligation to serve the public. Since serving the public is a requirement for all broadcast stations using the publically owned airwaves, they are meeting the requirement.

Over the top, you say? I again advise you to tell that to the folks in the path of the storm / hurricane, etc...
