Can anyone comment on whether or not Cannon has been fired, or, just retired from 'TVN?

From what I heard...fired because of "budget" cuts.

Coast to Coast Rewound with George Nory

What do weekend hosts like Curt Boster make... can't be that much, but since talk listenership is lower on the weekend, why not can him? Granted, talk listenership isn't huge after 10pm, but wouldn't you rather invest in weekdays with a long-time talker than a weekend show that you could pick up off the bird?

There are more reasons than just budgetary to eliminate Boster, such as the immature giggle-fest that he conducts whenever he is on.

I feel bad for Steve, but I feel vindicated at the same time since he hung up on me on Election Night a year ago.

I listened to Steve during his WHLO days when I was in my teens. And I liked his interaction with guests. When WTVN was still a full-service AC (pre-Rush), I would tune in to Steve while driving home from work. But as other former 610 employees like John Layne and John Remy will tell you (and Sally Wagner if she were still with us), things have changed from the time I graduated from Kent State 20 years ago. Back then, the 7-station rule and the Fairness Doctrine were still in existence.

My hope was to work for a station like WTVN, but I'm thankful that I never got my career in radio news off the ground. I couldn't work for anyplace where news is covered lightly (miminal substance) or indicates a slant to reflect Fox News or airs a lot of fluff. (I shared my frustration with Bruce Collins at Ed Schultz' appearance.)

Steve was never meant to become an ultraconservative talking head. His talents would be appreciated more on a station like 920 WMNI. We can only hope the folks at North American Broadcasting can find money in their budget to bring him on board since I will likely be getting my local news there in the near future. That's if WTPG continues airing none and WTVN continues to frustrate me.

As for what airs on WTVN, I and fellow WTPG fans would sure love to see WOR's Lionel take it over. As in other markets where he's heard amongst conservative talkers, his excellent analysis will drive WTVN's listeners bonkers while we can hear Lionel on a clearer signal. This would also allow Mike Malloy to take his slot on WTPG. Or better yet--the Majority Report can be moved here, thus enabling Randi Rhodes' four hours to all be heard after Big Eddie, as is the case in Cincinnati and Akron. (As for Big Eddie, all I will say is John Corby had better hope BC is eligible for retirement very soon.)

Nontheless, what happened to Steve, as with other former WTVN personalities, is yet another reason to mourn for the death of full-service radio.

God bless Dave Logan, wherever he is.
______________

Local news on WMNI? Get real. They read 2 headlines and hour and maybe a sports score if you're lucky. They don't have any audio in their newscasts and they are wayyyyy too NPRish for my liking.

As for your "suggestions" for WTPG - last time I checked, you weren't the PD. Leave the decisions to the people who get paid to make them. Tell your 4 friends who listen to that station to keep the liberals employed! At least Janeane Garofalo has an "acting" career to fall back on.

No, I'm not the PD. I just advertise there. My guess is you won't be a future customer.
______________

You call that ACTING? :)

1230 sounded much better playing Real Oldies. Sounds more like a fine whine now. Socialism stinks as much on radio as it did in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany...and gets lousy ratings, too.

Sorry to see Steve go, but not surprised. CC wouldn't let WSPD have any local talent outside of drives...and for a while, they even took PM drive away from the station when Sloan was moved to WLW.
