Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon

Hi. My name is Marty Jourard and I lived in Gainesville, Florida from 1958 to 1976. In the late '60s/early '70s Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon was a top DJ at WGGG AM. We all remember him, he was supportive of the Gainesville band scene, which was very active, and gave me and my band some air time, which we never forgot. Later I moved to L.A. and played in a band called The Motels and we had a career on Capitol Records. I am writing a book about the Gainesville, Florida music scene from 1964 to 1976 and one chapter will be on the local radio stations. I want to interview Steve and get his take on the whole scene and radio's involvement. Tthis discussion board is the only contact I can find on him, based on a previous post from a while back. If someone can contact him or has contact info please relay it to my email address of: [email protected]

Thank you!

Hi Marty,
Chuck Douglas had him on his show today on WTVN in Columbus. It was really nice to hear from him. I believe Chuck said he would post a link to Steves Facebook page, But you can also listen the show on Chucks podcast. Just check out the WTVN Website look for podcasting , Chuck Douglas, 7/3/2011.

Hope this helps

Here is the two part interview of Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon on the Chuck Douglas show last Sunday:

Part Two:

What I got a chuckle out of was when Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon told his former loyal listeners he decided to leave WTVN in 2005 because the
station was having economic problems at the time... That dose not explain why he abruptly left the station one day in 2005 without saying goodbye
to his loyal listeners. Here one day and gone the next without an so much as an explanation. :D

Chuck, Thanks for this Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon interview. This was a very pleasant surprise because Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon was a very good talent and a Columbus radio icon. Hope you will post here again.

Wasn't Steve Cannon famous for "faux pas"? I've always heard the (maybe not true) story that during an interview with Karen and Richard Carpenter he asked them "So how did you two meet?"
