Steve Borneman Exits WOR

After crossing the street from Cumulus (WABC/WPLJ + the soon-to-be acquired WNSH) back in January, CCM+E WOR Station Manager Steve Borneman has left? / is out of? the station.

AllAccess story link here.

Yes, he's gone from Clear Channel. (No question marks!) I chuckled a bit when my friends at All Access posted Friday that they'd confirmed his exit. I posted Thursday that CC had confirmed it -- saying only that he's "no longer with the company." They offered no further explanation, or reason or comment. I still have yet to hear/see any comment from Steve Borneman himself. And there's no announcement from CC (or CCME) of his exit or someone taking over from him specifically. They just offered the cited confirmation to specific inquiries from media. (Nov. 2012 to May 2013 is kind of a short tenure. I know AA said he started in Jan., but they as I had reported last Nov. that he exited Cumulus to join crosstown Clear Channel -- effectively going from WABC-AM to WOR-AM.)

Perhaps he promised that he would raid WABC for WOR. He did bring Mark Simone over and was involved in the IMUS contract negotiations and I guess was responsible for Cumulus having to pay what IMUS wanted to stay but ultimately he did stay with WABC. He also brought in Tom Cutty from WPLJ fame but other than that nothing seems to have changed. Perhaps he guaranteed increased ratings or sales and IMUS as the morning man? Perhaps CC just decided it didn't need a stand alone GM as WOR moves in with the rest of the CC stations.

No, not a long tenure at all and I really wonder what that's all about but no one seems to be talking. Where to for Mr. Bornman now???

He might also be responsible for adding "The Weather Channel" forecasts which are, IMO, not helpful during the morning show, from a programming standpoint.

I have been watching the New York Yankee radio rights very closely for the following years and I thought by now that the Yankees radio rights would have been awarded. Also the New York Mets are in the same boat and the same thing has happened there. When clear channel bought OR they did say they may go after the Yankee rights. Fox Sports Radio would love to be in New York after this many years and if OR goes Fox Sports along with picking up the Yankees they are then in a win win situation. Also they would take one of their FM's along with them and 105.1 would be my guess. Clear Channel has taken on baseball rights before and remember the Yes Network is now majority owned now by Fox Sports TV.

Not a chance Power 105.1 flips to sports. Too many FM sports stations and Power is doing VERY well. Makes no sense.

The departure of a GM can also mean an impending format change for the station. One that he might have disagreed with.

Let's also remember that this is a guy that jumped ship from Cumulus to CC, screwed Cumulus via his involvement in the IMUS negotiations, and really has no where else to go. How hard would he "fight" a format flip?? Where does he go now...New Jersey?
