Steve Craig Back for one week

Steve Craig, former mid day jock at 99X and 99X.com will be filling in Mara Davis on 929 Radio Atlanta I mean DAVE-FM from August 25 - 30.

He played guest disc jockey with Margot Chobanian a few weeks back on Dave After Tomorrow.

Ratings have been slipping at DAVE-FM recently and I happen to know someone is out of contract at the end of the month. Might this be an on-air audition?

It would really be nice to see Dave become a real alternative station. 99X has been leaning mainstream since their return and I think true alternative rock would work well in Atlanta. Maybe Dave could trend in that direction with a playlist like:

AC/DC is NOT alternative. Was this song was part of 94.9's "all-request lunch hour"?

Hmm, not sure whose contract is up but have to say that Steve's College of Musical Knowledge for the Ride Home would sound pretty damn good.

You are right! AC/DC is NOT alternative but if you listen to this station and go to their website, you will not see the word "alternative" anywhere. Of course, the station legally is alternative but they manage to break the rules from time to time playing bands like The Who, The Police and I even saw Janis Joplin. Of course, these selections are played like once a day or so and are not the common but then who said Bob Marley was alternative? He is not but he is popular on alternative radio just because of what he stands for.

Dave's format is Adult Album Alternative, which is obviously different from the standard radio definition of Alternative. AAA is softer and appeals to an older audience.

I listened to 94/9 when I lived in San Diego and it wasn't uncommon for them to do something like that. I mean, they even played Johnny Cash! Of course, there was a time very late in his life that Johnny found some success with younger people, mainly through his remake of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt".

yeah he did mention doing fill-in work....he'd be a good fit at Dave...and if he has the creative freedom he had at 99x, it's win. He easily had the best show at 99x, hands down.

The Police can be considered alternative. The old WDRE/WLIR on Long Island played a healthy dose of The Police as well as some solo Sting stuff.
