Where: JACK, SCORE, XRT or the yet to be revealed NEW 105.9 FM?

Longshots: US-99, LOOP, WLS, ESPN?

Not for all the tea in china buddy: WGN, NINE

Infinity stations are the favorites here, but without Mel, he's not valued as much by the suits in NYC. Plus we know that anything can happen in radio.

I want serious replies because as alot of you like to say: something IS afoot here.

He's as played out as that no talent ego maniac Mike North.

As far as the New 105.9 goes...look for Fred, Dick, and Greg to be billboarding the Big Bopper and the rest of the JMK library very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shiny new studios for the wild Itrallian -- I love it!

Sounds good, would be a great void to fill and Infinity could save face in Chicago, plus it looks like a worthwhile stunt for JACK. But will Hollander fall on his sword? He was so adamant about oldies being dead. Hope your right Joe Jay. Can anybody substantiate this? Will oldies return to NYC too? Brilliant.

Hmmmm, something is afoot here!

I remember thinking the same thing when Infinity retained all
the Oldies Jocks to broadcast to 85 people on the Webstream.
Why not bring them all back early in 2006 on Oldies 105.9?
But, you`re right, Hollander`s stuck his neck out so far on
the line saying oldies is a dead format, how can you go back
on the party line? I think because of Hollander, it`s very
unlikely you`ll see Oldies resurface on an Infinity station.

I think quite the opposite; DESPITE Hollander's criticism, I believe oldies will return to Chicago in the form of CKG.

It doesn't make sense for them to keep paying the jocks from the old 104.3 for web-only broadcast purposes (ok, ok, they are on HD...like I said, web-only broadcasts). The only reason I could see for this is that they didn't want to lose them to other stations while Infinity figures out where to put them next. HD radio won't take off anytime soon, so it stands to reason Infinity isn't paying these guys just for that.
 
I'll cede to everyone's local market expertise, but from what little I've heard, CKG sounds too much like another talk station; like they couldn't decide whether to be like WLS or sister KLSX/LA. Could they go more toward the syndicted hot talk format? Or does Chicago hate syndication on a large scale?

I think you`ll see some sort of Hurban music format on 105.9
before you ever see Oldies. All the execs at Infinity are
forced to drink from the Kool-Aid that says Oldies are
poison for advertisers.

They cannot be like WLS because 'CKG isn't really political. When they first went Hot-Talk fully, or "Talk that Rocks" they added some syndicated shows at night. But it was cheaper for them to play music at night. The station has been a crappy mess since day one. Putting Brandmeier on middays was an expensive move that got them zilch.

Chicagoans don't mind syndicated programs if they are compelling. Some of the local talent would have you think otherwise.

Come on guys, let's be realistic. Why would they end one the longest running oldies station, take it off the air, only to put it back on a different station. Don't expect oldies coming from Infinity. If they wanted both JACK & OLDIES, then they would of flipped CKG to JACK.

I do agree, something is brewing over there @ CKG. What it is I don't know. I can't see them change too much. I see them do more of a Spike Radio type format. Radio for Guys. Think about it. Pete talks about soo much sports, and now Dahl has added Bengay, & Bears updates.

BTW Stan & Terry, aren't good at all. I see that as the 1st show that goes, now that Jeff Schwartz is gone. I would rather listen to Woody Tony & Ravey in that slot.

Think about it like this. 104.3 has the stronger signal. Jack has the potential to make more $$$ in the money demo. Take the $$$ maker and put it on the stronger stick. Then cover the older end with the weaker signal. Joel can come back in and say "We heard the Cry of Chicago's Oldies fans". It would be the smartest move they could make.

Agreed. Not only then would it appease the people who are fiending for their oldies, but then Joel would look like someone that actually cares about the listeners. Its really a win/win situation for Infinity.

Then again, there are some good points about why they took oldies off in the first place. I think we'll have to wait this one out...

Or.....if you've been watching Infinity on a national level they seem to be flipping many of their stations to Spanish language. Chicago has a vast Hispanic population and just a few radio stations targeting them. No chance they'll bring back oldies...but the kids at CKG might want to brush up on their Spanish 101. Put your peso's on it.

It could work, wcKg. Too many rock stations, plus infinity already has xrt

Spanish, maybe

Agreed, Infinity already has JACK and XRT cannon-ball-izing each other, and theres too may Classic/Hard Rockers in the area.

Spanish seems logical because they are at the end of the dial where all the major spanish stations are (sorry LA KALLE) so it's easy for them to get recognized right away. PASION has a lock on the AC side and there are 2 Mexican stations, Hurban would cut into B-96 share and Tropical isn't gonna cut it in Chicago (unfortunately).

A Spanish Top40 Pop/Rock would be ideal and would fill a void.

As Asia once said, "Only Time Well Tell".

According to Infinity's website, they currently own 3 spanish language stations, so this is certainly a possibility. However, those stations are in the following markets: Fresno, Tampa, and DC. Would Chicago be too large a market for Infinity to test their first big spanish language station?

I guess all we have now is speculation..I'm simply bringing it up for debate purposes.

I would cry if CKG switched to Spanish. There are so many Spanish stations in Chicago.
