STEVE fm

What does everyone think of the NEW 96-7 Steve FM. The imaging needs some more spunk, but the music seems pretty awesome. From 90's cheese (What are we gonna do... now that we found love) into Kung Fu Fighting.

I've been listening for an hour now - very nice!

Nothing shocking, if you've been following these sorts of stations. It's a Variety Hits format leaning slightly male. It should put a dent in B106 and Fox 102 and help WNOK climb a bit in the rankers.

LOVE the name, though. :)

Any guesses on shares in a full book?

I guess CC is now getting into the VH game... Max in TN and Louie in KY now Steve in SC... When did the switch take place? CC

This afternoon at 3:00.

The marketing (sales) folks are saying its the "anti-radio station"... of course from CCU, the folks that seem to be the poster-child for everything the average listener hates about radio.

Finally figured it out. Steve is in reference to Steve Spurrier. The question is: Who lasts longer in Columbia? Steve Spurrier or Steve-FM?

My money's on the coach.

What is the playlist like? Is it a Classic Hits/ Hot AC hybrid or a mix of everything???? When I was down in SC a few weeks ago both Miller Mix stations were as close to Jack as you could get without it being called Jack... Now that Columbia has Steve I wonder if Citadel would bring Diva to Columbia and lock up the 25-54 listeners and try to take the younger end of NOK??? CC

Nuts, and I've thought that Steve was a acronym for Songs That Everyone Vociforously Enjoys. Hey, I was hoping that CC was being a little bit creative.

As for who'll last longer, my bet is on Spurrier. and you know that he'll have a hellva time cleaning up the mess that Lou Holtz left.

So far tonight:

The Beatles, Joe Cocker, 3 Doors Down, Temptations, Sheryl Crow, Journey, Bruce Springsteen, Tone Loc, Chumbawumba... Also heard some "country legends"

Interesting play list

Sounds kinda like our NINE FM up here in IL where they do play everything!!! If CC can keep the playlist fresh and fun Steve may do pretty decent in Columbia... Not a top five station, but a decent station... CC

If you're refering to "Aint That A Kick In The Head", that was Dean Martin (don't ask me how I know). :)

I'll post a sample hour just to give the folks out of the market an idea what they sound like.

BTW: The sweepers are done by the same guy that voiced Lite 96.7 (sorry Howard Cogan fans).

Frank Sinatra was played earlier today around 4:30pm.....yea...Dean Martin was on around 7:30!

STEVE-FM's sample playlist

8:49 p.m. Dean Martin-"Aint That A Kick In The Head"
8:53 p.m. Journey-"Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart)"
(legal ID)
8:59 p.m. Blondie-"The Tide Is High"
9:04 p.m. Huey Lewis & The News-"Workin' For A Livin'"
9:06 p.m. Loverboy-"Lovin' Evey Minute Of It"
9:10 p.m. Bob Dylan-"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
9:12 p.m. Mignight Oil-"Beds Are Burning"
(stopset)
9:19 p.m. Bad Company-"Rock And Roll Fantasy"
9:22 p.m. Go-Go's-"Our Lips Are Sealed"
9:25 p.m. Genesis-"Land Of Confusion"
(stopset)
9:32 p.m. Motley Crew-"Smokin In The Boy's Room"
9:35 p.m. Bob Seger-"Turn The Page"
(stopset)
9:43 p.m. Collective Soul-"December"
9:47 p.m. Fabulous Thunderbirds-"Tuff Enuff"
9:51 p.m. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark-"If You Leave"

To me the playlist sounds like a bad Classic Hits station with one "oh-wow"
song per hour. Too bad.

I guess the Dean Martin song was the "Oh Wow" for that hour? My analysis is that there is panic over at B106 and Fox, trying to figure out what, if any, dent this will make over the long term. CCU doesn't have much of a track record with "Jack-like" Variety Hits stations. Come to think of it, only the Paragon Research folks with the real "Jack" stations have had remarkable success.

Re: STEVE-FM's sample playlist

Thanks Robyn... All I can say is OH WOW!!!!! Why is Dean Martin even in the platlist... Thanks for the Sample hour of music also... CC

LOL - I guess I wasn't listening close. We had company at the house and I couldn't hear as much as I wanted to.

This morning they play "Hey Ya" into "Copa Cabana"... wow. Never thought I'd hear a segue like that.

With the exception of the Deano Jam, nothing really exciting on this sample playlist. If there are no other Classic hits stations in Columbia, Steve should do o.k. I don't see much of an erosion of listeners from Fox, though. A hardcore Classic Rock listener may land on Steve temporarily, but will be driven away the minute Minnie Reperton shows up.

The marketing materials imply that the target is Females 25-54 with some sort of male/female split that woudl carry more males than B106 usually would.

I guess this means B106 will slide softer to hold onto the upper end, almost to back where it was in 1990.
