Steve Friedman WPHT (Mr. Movie) Passes last night

From: Jacqueline Kravitz Strauss (Saturday Night WPHT Remember When Show with Steve Ross)
So sadly, we've lost our "Mr. Movie". Steve Friedman passed away in his sleep after fighting the bravest battle with kidney disease for over five years. His memory will live in the hearts of his legions of fans and friends and with us ...forever. Our sympathies and prayers go out to his wife, Michel and daughter Darragh and his family. God bless him and may he finally rest in peace.

OMG, this is so sad. I was listening to him a couple of weeks ago, both on Remember When and his show. I tried to get through, but no luck. I haven't not really talked with him in years, but for many years, we shared out passion for films through home video. I knew that he had kidney disease, as did my brother Tommy. We did many things and promos together in the 80's and 90's for my video stores in Ardmore and Roxborough.

Never let people drift away. It will always be too late. My love to Michele and his family.

I'm practically in tears.

I've listened to Mr. Movie's show since its inception on WCAU, especially when he had his all night shows way back then.

I met him twice: once during a remote at the now-defunct "Video Wonderland" in Ardmore and in 1999 as he was exiting a bank in Malvern.

Steve was one of the nicest, warmest, most caring individuals I ever knew. It's almost a cliche, but he was like a friend to me every Saturday night on the radio.

God Bless You forever Steve, and my deepest sympathies to your wife and daughter.

Another link to the vaunted WCAU-AM has passed on.

Godspeed, Mr. Movie. You're probably on the back nine with Don LaFontaine right now...

Damn shame. He was amazing. RIP Steve. Weekends will never be the same without you.

I would like to thank WPHT for keeping Mr. Movie on the air and letting him do the show despite the health problems he had.

Phillies night games will do that to a show... Phils have a night game this Saturday night, too...

I'll be missing Mr. Movie. Listening to his show was like hanging out with every movie geek friend you had times ten.
I was fortunate enough to be able to talk about some of my favorite movies with him on a couple of occasions.
Sorry to see him go. Thoughts are with his family.

I've loved the Mr. Movie show for many years. He was so kind to me, I listened to the marathon shows in the 80's. I rediscovered the show online in the last year. I live in Buffalo NY, I will miss him and the show. If anyone out there has recordings of his shows from years ago, I would love to have them. I have mp3 recordings of his show from late December of 08 - present, if anyone would like to trade or help me out with older ones please write [email protected]
