Steve & Garry back together?

That's apparently the case... Steve is on with Garry Meier at the Oak Street Beachstro "Back to the Beach" remote. They were just interviewed by someone from WBBM-TV, who got them to state that the hatchet is indeed buried, Phil Rosenthal from the Tribune is there as well. It's supposedly a one-day thing, but could it be permanent?

I'm shocked that this topic isn't getting more posts!

This has got to be one of the biggest stories in Chicago Radio in years...

It gets front page coverage on the Trib.

Well, here are my thoughts....

Dahl is a genius! He played WCKG's abysmal ratings into his best publicity stunt since Disco Demolition. Garry showing up at the broadcast was no coincidence...this was Dahl's master plan to resurrect CKG and Infinity played right into his hand. They are desperate to fix the station...they have lost 300,000 listeners since Stern left. Rover was a failure. Mad Money was an emergency break in programming!

Infinity paid for the new Dahl logo...the new signage...the broadcasts...and watch for an upcoming ad campaign promoting Steve & Garry.

It is about time that someone in Chicago Radio pulled their heads out and did something like this.

Dahl is a genius!

Dump Wendy. Keep Buzz for news. Steve and Garry in the mornings on 'CKG. Ca-ching, ca-ching!!

...so two scared men are back on speaking terms after a dozen years. Dahl saw plummeting ratings, Meier saw a future without income. Wake me when there's something really important ;-) ...

This coming from a guy doing a "show" in La Crosee, WI at the univeristy radio station after 20+ years in the business...... and naming himself Ultimajock. ummm ya

I thought this was pretty big news. I am not a big Steve fan, but the two together were quite the team. No, add Buzz as well. Too bad Garry could not get back with Roe. But if Garry was to get back, Steve would have been the second choice IMHO.

Just glad to see it happen. Bring on the good ol' days! (yes yes I am dating myself)

First of all, Steve Dahl was *never* part of any "good ol' days".

And read Feder today. Even Dahl says it won't happen.

Sheesh.

give me a break- r u disputing the fact that they had terrific ratings in the 80s? Just because you dont like them doesnt make them any less popular

The fact that heroin is generally accepted to be bad for you doesn't mean people don't use it.

Nor that they don't try to justify it.

I read the Dahl post in Feder today. I think he, garry and WCKG management would all have to be idiots not to at least discuss this further. I think everyone would win if they got back together. They were all sounding great. It got me to thinking about playing Armchair Program Director for several Chicago stations. I know this would never happen, but imagine a total Chicago radio rebirth expecially in morning drive. Steve and Garry could get mornings at WCKG. Buzz would leave to rejoin Johny at The Loop. After the sale of WLS and WZZN are complete, they would be owned by the company that Kevin Matthews works for. WLS would drop Don and Roma for Kevin. Mo and Jennifer could move to the AM to work on the Chicago portion of the show while being in dialogue with Kev and the Grand Rapids gang. Meanwhile, WZZN could bring on Tommy Edwards and Uncle Larr for mornings and fill up the rest of the day with the displaced WJMK jocks. Finally, Don and Roma could move over to 560 and give WIND a local morning show. What do you guys think?

So what about Landecker?

You were doing fine until you mentioned Lujack. Old Uncle Lar was fried 20 years ago. He hasn't gotten any better with time.

Lujack went from portraying a world-weary, this-is-stupid, get-me-outta-here guy to actually becoming one.

Armchair progam director?  Of course this would never happen....but if I can dream.....

WZZN goes back to being WLS-FM, brings back Lujack/Edwards, Biondi,
Winston, Weber, Riley (feud resumes) and all the other old f*rts. They even start running the old Anita Kerr and PAMS jingles, "Live news at 55" sounder, area-wide search for the new "Officer Vic" etc.  First day on the air someone spills coffee (or beer...or geritol) on the computer.  Result, jocks get to program their own music (x number of songs/hr required, vintage top 40 only).

Along the way, someone locks the door to the place, then loses the key so none of the suits who run Citadel can come back in and wreck the thing.

Oh yeah....back on topic, Steve and Gary back together. Also would never happen.  Makes too much sense.  I agree with the Dahl quote about breakup sex.

While we're fanticizing:

Gerry and Steve buy 100% of WJJG and do the morning drive, then repeat the show till sunset. The station becomes the first #1 rated daytimer in a large market since WAPE did it in the 60's in Jacksonville, Fla. ::)

Steve & Garry reunite on the all new consolidated WCKGWLSWZZNWLUP FMAM. $55 million dollars an hour for Steve and $55.00 an hour for Garry on a three thousand year non compete. They then stage weekly breakups and get a 92 share of the entire North American Continent.

Then, in their second month, Steve & Garry end the crisis in the Middle East, bring peace to Iraq and resolve global warming. In their third month Steve and Garry end the national debt and put all of America back to work. After that they end all the conflicts in Africa and bring true democracy to China. The Nobel Peace Prize is renamed the Steve & Garry Peace Prize and is awarded to them permanently.

In their fifth month the Earth is destroyed by an asteroid.

Steve & Garry survive and move to Alpha Centuri.

You left out Steve and Garry discovering a cure for cancer.

You're ALL missing the point.

SOMEWHERE in there, of course, since they're superheros and curing all the ills of the world....

they HAVE to blow up every radio station in the world and turn them all into dance format stations!
