Steve Garry Leaving KPHO?

I miss the good ol days of Steve Garry's more expanded role on KPHO. Where he worked the 3 day weekend. When they still had Diana Sullivan and Christina Wofford and Omadelle Nelson. Oh well. He always seemed to know his stuff. I really wish he would have been promoted to chief meteorologist, IMHO.

There has been a fair amount of shake up at KPHO in the past couple years, I realize it's part of change and what not, but I'm wondering if the new manager came in with a hack saw.

Good luck to Steve, if he is truly leaving. I think he has the talent to go places.

Unfortunately I haven't watched the news on KPHO in a while due to hypocrisy, yes if any of you have been wondering I still refuse to watch a station newscast that steals material from other people and call it their own.

He was on the air this morning, but I didn't watch long enough to find out if it was maybe his last day at KPHO.

I have to agree with musicfan. I, too, miss the goog people that they got rid of over the past couple of years. I find it ironic that they have played musical chairs with the morning news staff over the years. If they had put Diana Sullivan and Christina Wofford on the morning news, then I probably would have watched. But the station is currently unwatchable -- bland anchors, bland no-name sports, uninspired weather, and hyped news stories -- no reason to watch.

As usual, formeraa, i agree with you 100%...not to mention when you're watching the CBS primetime lineup any night M-F, & they play THE SAME TEASER THAT SEAN OR CATHERINE RECORDED AT 600pm OVER & OVER, AND YET OVER AGAIN!!! Every freakin' 15 mins...it's so annoying!!! Every single commercial break! Do they think we don't notice?! Oh I want to throw something at the TV! It makes me say: Viva tivo!!!

It really hits home when I go and visit Seattle (virtually identical market size as Phoenix). The quality of the news is so much better in Seattle...

Seattle is about 200x better, I'd say, from what I've heard. Someone needs to wake up and turn KTVK into a mini KING of the 90s. I could be a better ND than many of the ones we have out here!

Seattle news has been the vanguard of local news (even if KIRO's 1993 out of the box project failed, it still was a precursor to today's tight TV news-radio news connection and would probably be hailed today as a success).

Funny thing you should say that! I've been thinking about it all day from the other thread. Honestly, I think a tight TV-radio connection would do wonders in most cities these days.

Seattle really has done a great job over the years. If KTVK could be a slightly upbeat version of KING, it would skyrocket to #1 in Phoenix. I do like some of the changes that KTVK has made over the past couple of years. Although I liked Brad and Dan, GMAZ was getting really hard to watch -- almost mired in the 80's mold of Good Morning America. To me, GMAZ is focusing more on news now than in the past and adding Gina on traffic has been a godsend (when they give her enough time).

Channel 3 needs a few things:

1. More male personalities, especially one for the 4:30pm news.
2. Either a return to the plain Circle 3 or a new logo altogether.
3. A new ND or format...especially if they could try to be either like KING or WFAA. Belo has such crown jewels in its lineup, and KTVK is likely really disappointing in comparison to stations like WVEC, KHOU, and KGW.

Steve's on this morning, so reports of his departure apparently have been greatly exaggerated.

I'm told Steve Garry is leaving TV for now so that he can teach. Teach what, I don't yet know.

Well Steve good luck to you.
