Steve Gehrlein, Longtime KTSA Automotive Show host has passed away.

Just saw a post on Facebook from one of his friends and confirmed by others who knew him, that Steve Gehrlein, who owns Cambridge Auto and hosts the weekend "Automotive Show" on KTSA died suddenly today.

I catch this show on the radio a couple of times a month. Steve had an encyclopedic knowledge of auto and truck repair. It was amazing to hear him rattle off lists of things that shadetree mechanics could try for DIY repair jobs on their vehicles.

This is hard to believe... I streamed his show last Sunday on KTSA but don't recall if he was on the air or had a fill in... Have streamed his show in Ohio for years. He also was a personal friend of Ricci Ware.. Also, he said was a dancer on the old Swing Time show on KSAT in the 60s when he was in High School at Jefferson HS.

I had him do some work on my car in 1985, shortly after he opened his shop... Didn't realized he
was a radio star in the making back then. I told him I worked as a radio station transmitter operator at the time... He had nothing to say about radio at the time just to be the best at what you do.

Wow this is shocking. Back when KTSA was owned by Infinity broadcasting I used to work directly with Steve. Very knowledgeable and had a very deep passion for automobiles.

Now that BMP owns it many years later and I find myself working for the sister station, I never again worked directly with him but we were in the same building.

I am very sorry to hear about this.

Rest In Peace Steve...

Mr. Gehrlein was on the air last Saturday afternoon, if I recall correctly. KTSA radio sent this to me about his passing:
The passing of Steve Gehrlein has taken the entire KTSA staff by surprise and we are deeply saddened. Steve passed away yesterday while at his shop. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are obviously with Steve's family as well as his friends and employees at Cambridge Automotive. Steve Gehrlein's second family has been KTSA for the past 17 plus years and he has been an integral part of the fabric of KTSA. During Steve's tenure with KTSA he has earned trust and credibility with the listeners of San Antonio with honest and straight forward answers to their automotive questions. Steve's shoes will no doubt be hard to fill.

KTSA staff and management will have more to say at a later date. Please keep the Gehrlein family in your thoughts and prayers.
