Steve Harvey vs Tom Joyner

Which morning show has more stations? It seems that the TJMS is loosing some steam. I was suprised to hear Steve Harvey on 105.7FM in Dallas since that was a TJMS station. Hard to imagine Tom Joyner doesn't have a station in his home town not carrying his show.

Tom Joyner is still on in Dallas on KSOC 94.5 since 2002. Radio One syndicates the show. WDAS in Philly was the original flagship of the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show in the 90's now its on WRNB. Joyner has more stations than Harvey. Joyner has been doing radio for years and his show is somewhat better on the production side and music. Joyner show has become more political through the years and after the beef with Tavis Smiley the show has changed. Me personally I haven't listen to Tom Joyner show in years.

Harvey's only advantage over Joyner is Steve's show was successful in Los Angeles. Joyner show was tried twice in Los Angeles and it flopped. Steve plays a lot of slow music on his show and sometimes too preachy. Its not the same show Los Angeles is used too. Nephew Tommy's prank calls are the only ones that are funny. Hearing the callers curse and upset over the phone is funny. I hate to say it but the show is more enjoyable with Shirley, Carla and Tommy. Steve Harvey is planning a new talk show next year with NBC so it will be surprising to see how much time he will give to radio

I don't know know anything of Grandpa Joyner expect that the Los Angeles listeners hates him. I hate to say it but Steve Harvey is a market staple. I know that I dissed Steve so many times in my last posts but I respect that he has had a great Los Angeles following since his days on KKBT (The Beat). People used to laugh at the fact that he would say "stay in school" and then turn right around and play Mystikal's Shake It Fast lol ::). Steve Harvey over Grandpa Joyner.

Sleepy steve's show is lackluster.
Talking to female listeners for a few years they say hes too preachy, show is sleepy, and they also didnt like how he talked down to his nephew.

Steve once again is not a Radio person. He is a comedian.

Tom Joyner is a career broadcaster and has a great following. I feel that when Radio One stole TJ from Clear channel stations, it could have hurt the show but I'm sure its recovered since then in most markets?

Clear Channel doest care if the show is on Urban AC or Mainstream. They rather have a syndicated show vs paying a jock. Toms show airs on a few Mainstream Urban stations in the south. One of them is Cumulus KTCX Magic 102.5 in Beaumont, Texas. For years in the 90's and early 2000's Tom show aired on the Perry stations KVSP (1140AM then) OKC KJMM Tulsa and KJMZ Lawton

Tom Joyner is on KISS 103.1FM in Central Texas a true R&B station. Steve Harvey is on 92.3 The Z in Central Texas too but its a hip hop station. And yes, it does sound weird to have a R&B morning show on a hip hop station.
