Steve James/KTMO

The Dyersburg,TN studios for KTMO will close very soon. Steve James was removed from the Morning show and put on sister station 103.9
a AC station you can't get here very well in Tennessee. Steve will now have to drive to Kennett,MO to work and he lives in Dyersburg.

Congrats to Steve on keeping a job with a Station Going down. That Drive will suck, but its still a pay check and it's still radio.

I don't know why, but several stations in the area surrounding Dyersburg have tried to market themselves to the Dyersburg area without success and have ended up giving up on the area. I can remember 97.7 in Trenton, 94.9 in Ripley, 94.3 in Dyer (Although their tower is actually in Dyer County near Newbern), and now KTMO have tired and failed.

I was aware that 97.7 attempted to establish a foothold in Dyersburg back around 1985 (even had a studio in an upstairs building on the southeast side of the court square, if memory serves), but I was not aware that the other two had ever attempted a beach head in Dyersburg. Seems like 94.3 simulcast with the Humboldt FM station. Maybe they still do.

I know that 94.9 (When they were Star 94.9) at least had a sales office in Dyersburg in the 90's. 94.3 in Dyer has always simulcast with another station. First it was with 105.3 in Humboldt during their years doing CHR and/or alternative. Then when Forever bought them they changed it to simulcasting with Froggy 104.1 from Jackson. During all this time they tried to market 94.3 as a Dyersburg station and carried Dyersburg High School sports. This past year Forever switched 94.3 back to simulcasting 105.3 again, but both are simulcasting WTJS 1390 in Jackson, which is news/talk, and DHS sports are no longer on 94.3. Jackson already had two FM news/talk stations, and the programming geniuses ??? at Forever decided to add two more. Now 94.3 and 105.3 are now the two biggest wastes of FM frequencies in West TN. :-\

I forgpt about WTNV 97.3, whose COL is Tiptonville, but is owned by Burks Beverage and is marketed as a Dyersburg station. They're more likely to make it since they're owned by Burks and actually have their studio in Dyersburg.

"Programming geniuses???" I'd just call them good programmers that saw a need and used the resources available to create a successful group of stations. The TJ Network is now producing some significant ratings and also making money for the first time in a long while. Morning show host Mike Slater has been seen on two international news channels in two weeks! (Fox and CNN) "Programming geniuses???" Maybe not, but they've made some very smart programming decisions! ;)

The Ripley FM NEVER tried to be a Dyersburg station. They did some sales work there once upon a time because they had listeners there and because a lot of Ripley area people shop in Dyersburg. Ripley NEVER tried to be a Dyersburg station.

There are Dyersburg STATIONS that try to be Jackson stations, though.......

Steve James on KGLU 103.9 FM weekdays
