Steve Jones OUT at 3WZ...

is this more very-remotely-connected fallout from the Jerry Sandusky tragedy story since Steve Jones is so closely associated with PSU football & basketball on the radio? seems like a stretch but maybe they didn't want a 'voice' so closely connected with Joe Paterno, who he interviewed pre-game the last 11 years
 
Just a curiosity question...

Do you think things will get so extreme with the clean house mentality that Jones and Jack Ham will be dismissed from the PSU football radio booth after the TicketCity Bowl?
 
being that i couldnt find the bowl game with penn state today on tv.. i had to listnen to the radio coverage on our local station. didnt know jones was fired until i read about it today,,, but i gotta say, these two guys that do the play by play ham and jones shouldnt be on the air.... i know they are penn state homers, but at least give the other teams some credit when they make a great play.. its not all about penn state.. jones blamed the refs today for two different violations against penn state, and they both bitched about it. if the shoe was on the other foot, they wouldnt a mentioned it at all. penn state got beat by a better team today.. admit guys.. i dont know why the station fired jones, but i never liked him as a play by play guy even in the past,.. jack ham was a super football player, both at state, and with the steelers, my team, but not a great radio guy..sorry if i hurt anyones feelings, but this is how i feel.. the cowboy
 
I suppose I'm a month or so late on this, but I'd guess with 3WZ flipping back to AC maybe they finally figured out that Jones never really fit into a format aimed at women. My recollection from years ago is that his rep was that of a "difficult" personality, and it certainly sounded that way on-air. Not the kind of fun, friendly sort normally found on AC--probably a better fit for rock or sports (obviously). Outsized egos aren't all that rare in radio, but maybe they just got tired of dealing with it. Anyway, isn't his real job being the "voice of Penn State?" He should be okay there, shouldn't he?

I always thought he was a solid pbp guy. Someone who might have made it to a much higher level if he had ever tried.

Definitely not a fit for any form of AC.
