And this is a bad thing? Some of the rock channels were horribly fractured, with a lot of the cuts going way, WAY too deep and cutting into TSL.

It's satellite radio. TSL is not, and should not be a factor. One of the major reasons that I like XM is because of the deep cuts. At this point, I cannot stomach FM playlists anymore.

The argument against satellite radio has been, "why pay for something that you already get for free?" Well, you cannot get deep playlists on FM.

Ethel does indeed sound horrible lately. The repetition, the addition of Linkin Park, etc. It's terrible, and whoever is responsible should be ashamed.

that is my point.
If I want repeats, I'll put on my cd or ipod and play the song 10 times.
if I like the artist, I don't mind hearing a deep cut from their album.

could be a reason why FM949 and Indie 103 have gotten attention.

I bought XM for two reasons...

1) Opie and Anthony
2) Commercial-Free music.

NOT deep cuts. I've said it before - a perfect station for me would be WYSP (before the change to FREE FM) that's commercial free. I don't need deep cuts to make me happy.

If I wanted to listen to Obscure stuff, that's what my IPod is for.

The problem is, there is no real Mainstream rock station on XM. It's very fractured.

Hate to break it to you, but TSL should be a factor, especially with stations that are high-profile rock stations. If a station doesn't generate TSL or a good number of listeners, you can wave it bye-bye, just like in terrestrial radio.

I noticed this direction on the Big Tracks and Top tracks channel. There sprinkling in deeper cuts on those stations when they should be hit and obscure hit tracks. That's what "Deep Cuts" should be for.
