Steve Malzberg Splits WWRL

One-time WABC talk-show host Steve Malzberg
is no longer on WWRL. He was teamed with a
co-host on WWRL for the morning gig. Here's
the info from Steve's Web site:

Hello everyone,

I want to inform you that I am no longer affiliated with
WWRL Radio. I look at my time there as a learning experience.
It just wasn't a good fit. I wish everyone at the station all
the best in the future. As for me, keep checking the website.
Here I will detail my upcoming TV and radio appearances. You
can also go to www.newsmax.com/malzberg to read my latest
columns and register to receive my free updates. Thanks as
always for your loyalty. Stay safe.

Harold:

Since Steve is an exprienced sportsman, I think it would be an asset for WEPN 1050AM (ESPN Radio) to hire Malzberg to do a show (if they could find room for him).

That's a good point. Steve's roots were in sports
when he started at WABC. But he got very comfortable
with the equally combative world of politics. He has
a group of vocal opponents but, as is often the case,
the louder they yell the more telling Steve's comments.

Here's hoping Steve lands on his feet in a venue that
will appreciate his professionalism and mastery of
the genre.

Same here--why he went from WABC is beyond me.

I don't remember the way Steve exited WABC, but I think that may impact his hirability to fellow ABC owned 1050 ESPN radio.

In the past, WABC has brought back hosts who they previously let go. Lynn Samuels was hired and fired from that station three times, Jay Diamond was fired from the morning show but was hired to do late nights a year later, Curtis Sliwa was fired from his morning show but was doing overnights later that year, and Steve, himself, was exiled to WFAS in Westchester for a year before returning to WABC. Don't be surprised if he comes back to WABC.

Steve filled in for Bill Bennett last week

Ah... that explains why he was available to fill in for Bill Bennett recently. I was wondering about that.

When Steve was doing overnights on WABC he would
often fill in on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America"
show. Freed from his morning responsibilities now I
guess he will see more opportunities as a Bennett
fill-in. Perhaps it will attract enough attention to
land him a synicated gig of his own.
