Steve McCoy and Children's Healthcare

Star 94 held a fund raiser this morning for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. I was out of the Atlanta market for a few years during the time that Steve McCoy lost his son. What happened with his son? I did not hear the story completely if it was explained this morning.

Also made me think about Gary McKee losing his son last year to a tragic accident. These guys have been through a lot.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Steve McCoy lost one of his sons to some sort of non-curable disease. It seems to be something that doesn't come up too often...even during these radio-thons. I think Steve likes to focus on the stories of current and more recent patrons of Scottish-Rite...rather than his own.

But yes, they HAVE been through a lot.

They're doing that telethon tomorrow morning as well. My wife is actually working the phones for it (volunteering with her company).

Just an example of a truly wonderful person who is not egotistical
or selfish! Steve McCoy has been through quite a lot, but he got
up every morning and made Atlanta laugh. Think about how hard that
has had to be. Trivial things we all get frustrated about on
here are not remotely important in the scheme of things. If
Steve is reading this --- you are awesome! Keep up the good
work! You're a "Country Ham!" Inside story there, nothing really
to it except, that he's made a lot of difference in a number
of people's lives and probably doesn't even realize how
much he means to folks like us! I'd say Chris Romer and
quite a few of the Nashville gang agree!

Absolutely: Steve is a complete rarity...a great talent without the ego.
He has worked his butt off for decades, and is a good friend.
Wow...pretty odd post from me without ANY sarcasm huh?

Yeah! Ha. Same for me on this one about sarcasm. You to,
are a VIP! I hope a lot of the great people here on RI
give to a good cause. I know I will. It is still going
on Friday AM, right?

I worked with Steve at the time his son died and he's absolutely
one of the finest individuals I've ever been associated with. He
also stood behind me during a very difficult time and I don't think
he's ever known how much that meant to me.

All in all a great talent and even better person.
