The New York Islanders just fired their radio broadcast team and will simulcast the TV audio. As usual they're trying to cut costs.

Steve Mears, their pbp man, is from Murrysville. I used to listen to him on KWKH when he did the Schreveport Mudbugs games in the CHL.
 
the guy from murrysville was virtually a kid when he got that job. he was featured on numerous national shows. and that really is OK boss man. he went a lot further than the much overhyped local yokel talent.
he'll have a job in the nhl next season. would love to see him replace mike lange when the time comes.
 
Sorry to hear he lost the gig. I remember tuning in to those Shreveport Mudbugs games.
(Bob Chase on WOWO got me addicted to AM hockey DXing). The Islanders have been
a cheap shoestring operation for some time now. If they won't spend money on their players or their building, no surprise that the radio announcer falls off the priority list.
 
Shame is that they dumped him so late that there are no other NHL jobs open for the coming season. I hear that the Islanders might keep him on to do pre and post game stuff, but only for the right price.

The Islanders are the Pirates of the NHL.
 
The Pirates and Liberty Media/FSN. It sounds alot like what those morons did to Mr. Savran. Pirates+Liberty Media+Islanders=LOSER ORGANIZATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
