STEVE MEET JACK

We have one oldies/classic hits station. WZZN is doing good now. I don't see CBS flipping WJMK back to a oldies/classic hits station. Who else are you going to get Greg Brown just joined and Dick Biondi has a multi year contract. Plus most of the old listeners of the oldies format on wjmk are now fans of WZZN.

That's true. I listen to WZZN a lot.

Chicago doesn't have an 80s station. WJMK could flip to an 80s format and fill a gap.

WJMK is practically an 80s station already. It wouldn't take much to morph Jack into one. But, I don't know if that's a good idea at this point, even though Jack in its current state is a loser compared to Oldies 104.3 (yesterday's spilled milk). There are some Jack FM's that have live personalities. I don't think Steve fits here, but some other jock would.

I don't see how they can have Dahl in AM Drive without hiring more live jocks at Jack. It just doesn't mesh - completely opposite appeal, Dahl vs. jockless. It needs to be one way or the other. And with Dahl on board, that mean the other, hiring jocks. In the days of ppm it certainly couldn't hurt.

That was exactly what WCBS-FM's "Jack" resembled in the months before it went back to "oldies".

The "new" WCBS-FM is basically the 80's songs on JACK-FM and taking the 60's & 70's from the "old" WCBS-FM. I could see 104.3 going back to Classic Hits based on what they've done with WCBS-FM in New York. I think it could do well.

By "they've" you do not mean CBS, no? CC owns 104.3.

CBS owns 104.3 not CLEAR CHANNEL

Well, I guess Clear Channel's been paying Bob Buchmann all these years for nothing, huh?

WJMK has been growing 25-54 (its target demo) over the last year. I would be surprised to see CBS mess with what is working right now in those dayparts (the station is practically top 10 25-54) a good rank in Chicago.

Adding Dahl to mornings may be able to drive some new cume in there.

I think it's a good fit.

You're a bit confused. Buchmann runs CC's Q104.3 in New York. This discussion is about CBS's WJMK 104.3 in Chicago.

I'm completely lost with the last few posts... anyway,

In regard to CBS' 104.3 in Chicago, though, I see CBS sticking with JACK for the near future, but that doesn't mean without making tweaks. WZZN pretty much owns the 1960s in Chicago, and WDRV and WLUP hold down the 1970s and 1980s. A 70's/80's classic hits format would fit Dahl, but there doesn't look like there's much room for another station doing that format.

Focusing JACK on the 1980s is probably the most realistic situation.

I can see why you would be a little confused. This was a discussion about 104.3 WJMK CHICAGO and 105.9 WCKG CHICAGO
CBS owns both of those stations D to the J.

I wasn’t too shocked with the format change at WCKG announcement yesterday because of the rumors left by Chicago newspaper columnist Robert Feder weeks ago. I was curious however to see exactly where Steve would be going. I really didn’t think he would wind up at Jack-FM because it doesn’t have DJ’s which is the main idea behind their format. Having Steve really contradicts their philosophy. However I believe Steve's remaining contract and CBS having to honor it had a lot to do with this decision. Truthfully I would like to see a Steve and Garry reunion morning team again. I think that would be even more of a ratings juggernaut over the plain Steve Dahl show with Buzz Killman as his sidekick. I think a lot of Steve’s faithful listeners feel the same way. I was actually hoping that when Garry returned to the radio that it was with Steve and not as a solo act. Buzz could still be the “third” person part of the team. When Steve and Garry had an impromptu North Avenue Beach lakefront reunion last summer they worked so well together as if they had never parted ways years before.They seem so natural together. I hope others comment here in agreement with me and CBS management reads the postings. Maybe they will decide to add Garry to Steve’s morning drive and revive the "Steve & Garry" Show that proved to be as much of a ratings giant for many years as The Howard Stern Show was when it was on in the mornings in Chicago.javascript:void(0);

Let’s hope!
