Steve Pool (KOMO) dead

While a local legend in the Seattle market, others around the country may know a little of him. He substituted more than 70 times over the years on Good Morning America.

He was very well thought of here in the PNW. Having met the man twice, he was both times super warm and genuine. We lost a good man this week.

Here is a time when Steve Pool did a segment for KOMO-TV as "The Front Runners" it was like Evening Magazine the way it was presented. Had no idea Steve Pool did fill ins on Good Morning America during the time Spencer Christian was off or doing another assignment for ABC.

Front Runners was a magazine show that KOMO produced in the early-mid 1990s. And yes, a young Bruno Mars appeared on that show!
I remember that he had such a friendly presence on television. He always bantered with Mary Nam during the First News at 4, especially if it was "question of the day" time. And Dan & Kathi were like extended members of his family. KOMO was always my family's #1 favorite station for local news for that reason. He realized even at the University of Washington that TV was his field to be in. He interned at the station in 1974, working his way to sports/reporter. And when Ray Ramsey retired, Steve took over for weather...the rest is history.

My condolences especially to our own Kelly A, who spent a lot of time as an engineer at KOMO. There are probably a lot of good stories he can share about Steve...

Say hi to Kathi Goertzen and Ken Schram for us, Steve.
