Steve Stewart not renewed for Reds Radio Network

Any chance that Dan Hoard will be offered the chance to call the Reds games again?

I think Dan Hoard is good...but why are so many lobbying for him? I'd think the Reds could have just about anyone they wanted. Do we know who Marty's choice is?

We don't need another play-by-play man. We need a former player to provide player insight. Don't tell me Tracy Jones, either.

How about Tom Browning, Tom Seaver or Paul O'Neil? The list can go on and on. As long as they can speak well, know left from right (polite cut at Joe), and have some former Reds connection, I think that would be the best way to go.

I gained a lot of respect for Stewart for not walking after his "not to be renewed" information became public. I thought that was a tremendous disservice to him, not even mentioning how embarassing it is. I certainly wish him well.

Good Luck Steve.

Johnny Bench would be great...but he's a horses rear-end (and I think he had a falling-out with Marty). Tracy Jones has experience...but again you have the "jerk factor." Joe Morgan would be perfect, but I doubt he could take the pay cut. On a side note, am I the only one who prefers Allen Cutler to Andy Furman (sp?)? Not that Andy's bad, I just think Allen is a better host.

I don't like Cutler at all. Every time I listen to him, he's rude, knows everything, and asks himself questions and answers them.

Will the Reds win this series? No
Do I think the REds will trade before the deadline? I don't think so.

Stuff like this drives me nuts. I turn him off!

Sorry to poo-poo on your choice. I agree with all your other suggestions.

Yes, Cutler's asking and answering his own questions is annoying as hell. It drives me crazy and more often than not, its enough to make me turn the radio off.

I have no idea why he keeps doing it.

Three was a great post on Callofthegame.com on Stewart http://www.callofthegame.com/news/index.php?itemid=1845. I would love to see Dan Hoard get the job, but I would tend to agree that the Reds (and they have mentioned this) that they are looking for an analyst. Morgan would be wonderful, but giving up TV would likely not happen. Perhaps they can arrange for something like some teams do, like the Pirates or Yankees, that have their radio & TV crews very integrated. Granted, the REDS don't have a TV network like YES, but it could still work, and you can have the best of both worlds.

We don't need an ex-player just for the sake of having an ex-player in the booth. We need an ex-player so we don't have two 'Martys' in the booth. We as fans benefit not by having a second announcer in the booth who is trying to emmulate Marty. Thats pretty boring, as we now know.

We need someone that already has achieved something BEFORE they get into the booth, someone who won't feel the need to fawn all over Marty with all his announcing acheivements.

From Lance McAllister...

REDS CLOSE TO NAMING THEIR MAN
It is my understanding that the Reds search for their next broadcaster is not only underway....but nearing completion. I believe the next Reds broadcaster can be heard this Saturday afternoon on Fox 19 as the Cubs face the Cards in St Louis...........Thom Brennaman. Don't be surprised if the announcement is made prior to the end of the season.........IF not sooner.

Thom is an excellent choice! He could have just about any job he wanted. If the Reds hire him, they're obviously not looking for an analyst. If this turns out to be true, how big of a pay cut do you think Thom will take (if any)? I feel bad for Dan Hoard, but maybe he can land a PBP gig in another market.

Geez,

I sure hope its not Thom Brennaman. Hopefully that story was raised up the flagpole to see if it was saluted.

I was listening to the reds-giants game last night and am now satisfied that Stewart had to go.

That guy can't seem to keep his mouth shut and seems to think his endless hours spent on the internet searching for new stats everyday yield anything we want to listen to. Its ok to throw out a salient one here and there, but its annoying to hear them constantly droned throughout the game.

Theres nothing like listening to the crowd noises while Joe is watching the game. It offers a welcome break from the endless advertisments we now have to put up with.

Yeah, I fell asleep listening to Joe on many occasions. I think those days of his style of broadcasting are over. They have to fill all of those dead spots in the game with commercials. I doubt you'll here that much crowd noise again.

I know what your saying, but they surely dont have to fill those silent moments up with commercials. Its the announcers call, not the sponsors. It was natural for Joe to keep his mouth shut when he didn't have anything to add. New announcers should try to fake it until it becomes a part of their routine. A few moments of crowd noise adds a lot more to a broadcast than knowing how many times a batter has faced a certain pitcher in his career.

Father knows best?

SAN FRANCISCO -- Regarding the report circulating today that Thom Brennaman will move into the Reds' radio booth for next season, Marty had this to say:

"That is unequivocally not true."

I have so little faith in public statements actually saying anything (and knowing that it was marty speaking)...all I will accept as true from that statement is that Thom Brennaman is not going to use the booth as his living abode for the next season. Thats how I interpret "move into".

I DO NOT listen to Reds on Radio for two reasons:

1. The team loses too much

2. I'm sick of all the commercials.

I have XM, and I don't know of any other team's announcers doing as many commercials. It's annoying, and I will not listem to it. My brother doesn't listen for the same reason.
