All references have been removed from the WZLX web site about Steve and Lance. First 'Tank' and now the Neighborhood is gone.... Anyone with the skinny on what went down? They are still 1000 times better the putz up at 104.1 in the morning.

yes it now says
Weekdays

* Bill Abbate and Hutch , 5:30 - 9 a.m.

First they took Tai off the show and made it Sweeney only, and now "the
mayah of the schitty'o'Borston" is gone. Maybe he left to do full
time comedy, or the contract expired and they decided not to renew.

Wow - sad to see them go - I liked Steve and thought added some fresh air to the mornings in Boston, but unfortunitly - he didn't appeal to everyone and he eventually got stuck in a rutt. . .

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ........ The only explaination is they are doing the more music in the morning approach or it's dead on arrival. Two non names teamed up together.

Had to be contract. Sweeny has been aorund since I was a kid in Southie where he is a southie legend and has been doing comedy the whole time. There is no way that he decided to pursue full time now since he has been for the past 25 years or more. He got the gate.

Hutch is one of the best DJs in Boston; Bill Abbatte is a veteran - this should be an excellent music show. Good going, WZLX. I'm impressed!

I thought that Steve Sweeney was supposed to have gone on vacation for a couple of weeks.

At first, I thought that maybe Abbate and Hutch would only be on for a couple of weeks, until Sweeney came back.

On the other hand, many radio (and TV) people have been fired while they've been on vacation. Sometimes, they've been fired while out-of-town, and only learn about their fate when they come home, expecting to go back to work only to discover that their they're fired.

"Maccah, Dumpah, Sully, Maccah..."

Classic Sweeney..

People also forget that he was the Ted Danson character (Augie Antonelli..gimme my bonus points!) in the original "cheers" show, "Park St. Under".

...yeah...I'm a geek.

He's from Chahhhles-town, not Southie.

Good. He sucked on radio.

"I am walkin' here!!!"

Yes, I am a radio sales weasel but there would

Yep...I'm out of the demo by 3 years.

I was like 8-9 when it was on. I only remember because Sweeney's the uncle of the kid who was my best friend in 4th grade when I lived in Foxboro (by the way...Foxborough, or Foxboro? Can we get a ruling?).

...Who Steve told me is actually now the bassist for the Saturday Night Live Band.

..Plus, I'm a geek.

As I recall...WCVB had "original programming" a few nights a week for a while. And the guy who did the Pepperidge Farm commercials was the "coach" character. I wanna say "Fitzy" was the character's name.

I only act stupid.

Yes

A pair of "dj's", not one has a personality so in other words it's going to be a jukebox until they hire a real mroning show. Hutch brings nothing to the table and wouldn't even be on air if it were not for the accent, Bill will babble about sports and not much else. It wont last.

Hutch is a great choice

Frish - your post is rife with jealousy.

I believe Beau Raines had Hutch on the air at WROR. Long before Bill Abbatte
did sports he was a music jock - he is better at music than he is at sports.
Good to have him back to his original calling. No, it won't be a jukebox, it will be personalities who don't grate on the nerves. I'm looking forward to it.

If you want loud and obnoxious you've got Stern, Woren & Lolly (as in Worn Out and Lulled into sleep), Dale & The Beached Whales at Oldies 103, take yer pick.

Nice to have a choice.

I dont think that's fair I got no hint of jealousy from his post. Truth is that as a career part timer in Boston, Hutch is a non entity. He's not really a personality and he's very flat when the only thing that truly makes him noticable is his Brit accent. Im sure he's a nice guy but There it is. I agree Hutch is probably a great choice considering this is obviously temporary until a moning SHOW is hired.

I figure I'm older than most of the "cool kids", whose choice of hairstyles is necessitated by their premature balding due to years spent with a baseball cap on backwards...

I wonder if Fred Durst can be class-actioned for that?

I cut it off in 94. Think Fred Flintstone. Nobody needs to see that.

ROFL!!!

Jealous because I dont agree with your opinion about a guy who as the wiz said is a career part timer?.

You're crazy.

Not eveeryone likes what you like and that is fine it's called democracy. For you to assume he's jealous because he doesn't think the same of some no name dj as you do is ridiculous. This is why you're always defending yourself and no one ever sides with you, because you dont even know when you're attacking someone else because you always think you're the hero and those who disagree with you are somehow the enemy.

It's not a war it's an exchange of ideas. Learn to communicate respectfully. Not everyone has to agree with you, in truth most will not.

Get over it.

Re: Hutch is a great choice

A record label president called me crazy a few months back. He finally wired me the money he owed me. Who's "crazy" ??? It's all perception.

I stand by it - Hutch sounded great this morning - beyond the British accent -
he brings something to the table that is missing on the AM commute (AM as in
morning). My perception that his critics are jealous stands - not because they always disagree with me - because now there's a decent on-air personality who isn't loud and grating and the flavor-of-the-month.

Too bad Frish and R.C. have a problem with professional on-air personalities.

Just because I find professionalism in this market refreshing is no reason to knock it.

As for Rumor Control's nonsense above, it's not even worth wasting energy on.
The post that got deleted a week ago had a message from the moderator that
Rumor Control issued a personal attack. A fact R.C. conveniently left out in his follow-up to the attack. A civil discussion about radio would be nice.

And look at the tone here - a deserving jock gets a gig, I applaud the move,
and you individuals come out swinging at the jock and someone who thinks it is a smart move.

What on earth is your motive? if not jealousy? That we have to swallow your opinion and no other line of thought? Please

Re: Hutch is a great choice

So your defense of your constant arguing and attacks is to argue more and issue another attack?. Do you not realize that this is what you're doing?. A record label president? another reference to somethhing that has nothing to do with well, ANYTHING.

Please unplug your computer because you're giving me a huge headache
