I received this e-mail from John Frost....
CRW has asked me to write my start-the-new year thoughts on the biggest challenge facing our industry:
The greatest programming challenge for the Christian radio industry as a whole in 2007 will continue to be the general reluctance to adopt more sophisticated radio programming techniques that other formats have utilized for decades; strategic planning, music research, talent development and targeted marketing.
This reluctance, or even ambivalence, on the part of many in the Christian radio industry has resulted in a format with the most number of stations in America and the fewest number of listeners.
Perhaps this reluctance is based upon being spooked by the unknown, lack of knowledge of the benefits, or a belief that individual stations can’t be as good as our mainstream counterparts. I find it ironic that a format that has BELIEF as a foundation often doesn’t BELIEVE it can be better.
I’m proud to work with numerous Christian radio stations that are now market leaders, powerfully connecting with the listeners’ values, using excellence as the standard, and bringing people of faith together for the common good.
