Steven Tyler, J-Lo Confirmed As New "Idol" Judges

When "American Idol" returns for its tenth season next winter, Randy Jackson will be flanked by new judges: Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, and actress/singer Jennifer Lopez.

More info:

So it appears the show will be returning to a three-judge panel, which is good. (And personally, that's the only "good" thing I can say about this development... Steven Tyler? How many tapings is he going to miss due to oversleeping?)

That does it for me. I know I won't be watching. A no talent Lopez (computer generated
singing voice) and has been Tyler. Bill & Hillary would have been better choices.

Worst kept secret in the world.

The real problem here is that no one represents "the industry." Unless Randy is going to step up to the plate. He has the credentials to do it, but it's not been his role. He's played the musician card, not the record executive card. Someone has to be the one who says "You suck." J-Lo can't do it. She's the Paula role. Tyler is the musician, taking Randy's role. Can Randy change roles? Will the public accept it? We'll see.

I have great confidence in the producers of this show to make it work. They have a great track record, and they understand their show implicitely. But there are some big challenges here, and they really should have considered the need of replacing Simon with someone who knows what it's like to sign someone to a label.

Don't give the folks at NBC's "America's Got Talent" any ideas... ::)

Now, if you really wanted to get me to watching "Idol," the musician to add on as a judge should have been Ozzy Osbourne - or would there be a conflict of interest with his wife hosting the aforementioned "AGT"?

Look for this to be Idol's last season. It's becoming a caricature of itself.

I really think that's a function of the judges. Now that they've changed, they get a new lease.

And the contestants are the wild card in all this. If they're dull, it's a dull show. If there's some chemistry or some friction, you have a show.

"Idull" is about as exciting as a cricket test match. My apologies to the Brits and Indians.

J-Lo and Steven Tyler joining Randy on the Idol judging table ain't going to do diddly squat to the show's sagging ratings.

If there's one show that will finally prevent Idol from becoming #1 for the seventh straight season, it's "Dancing With The Stars." ABC hasn't had a top-rated program since "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?" ruled the ratings a decade ago, and this could be their chance!

Apparently, Johnny missed "Grey's Anatomy" this decade...

I know it's not fair to make this statement as the show has not aired yet, but I am more confident that Dennis Miller's work in the "Monday Night Football" booth will be better than this.

I think a lot of guys will tune in just to see if they can catch a glimpse of J-Lo's bootie...

And if the ratings start bleeding, I'd consider installing a "bootie cam"...

Looking at it does nothing for me. It's like going to a static air show, unless I can jump in the left seat and fly one of those jokers, I don't want to see it just sitting on the tarmac. Same thing with J-Lo's caboose....unless I can jump on it and fly it.....well, you get the idea. ;D

This will be the second to last season, if X Factor takes off next September, Idol will be toast after 2012.

What IS the big difference between the formats of Idol and X Factor anyways?

No; to the best of my knowledge, "Millionaire" was the #1 show for the 1999-2000 season.

Marcus Welby M.D., Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Dynasty, Roseanne (tied with The Cosby Show in 1989-90), and Home Improvement all preceded them, and Dancing With The Stars may make it ABC's eighth #1 show in their history.

My station did a facebook question about the new judges, and guess what? Not one positive comment. The show is in deep trouble.

People HATE change, didnt we know this already?

At least the ONLY change on Dancing With The Stars was the co-host (Lisa Canning followed by Samantha Harris and now Brooke Burke); Tom Bergeron and the judges (Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli) have all been there since day one.
