Steven Tyler out as judge at American Idol

This TV show eats up a lot of their time. Musicians (especially at his age) aren't used to working this hard.

I think the Idol people have to consider the higher the stature of the artist, the less work they're willing to do.

If they want artist judges, they have to understand the people they choose will only stick with it for a year or two, and then move on. They have a long line of applicants for the job. Every time they change the judges, it will refresh and hopefully reinvent the show.

IMHO, Tyler was brought on to give some "edge" to the proceedings. Too bad the bag of rags didn't bring any talent. In that, of course, he was no different than any of the other judges. Just funnier to look at.

I'm sure Aerosmith will be happy to get him back......or not.

Ben Folds from "The Sing-Off" would be a good choice. Also, I rather enjoyed J-Lo's observations, but if she leaves, not a problem for me.

For basically the same reason as Tyler. Two years is enough. These are artists. They don't like routine. After a couple years of doing the same thing, they're ready for a break. She was almost gone after one year, but they threw enough money to keep her one more year. But even the money at some point becomes secondary.

I agree with many of the posters on here. "American Idol's" best days are in the rear-view mirror. It's kind of weird to think about, but the show was actually good with Simon, Paula, and Randy. Kind of like watching a train wreck every week just to see Simon lambaste a singer or Paula doing something embarassingly stupid.

I agree. When Simon left, the old "American Idol" died right there. It's a shell of it's old self now.

Shows have to evolve. I find that's true in radio too. You do the same show day in and day out, the listeners get tired of it. The Simon routine grew old, and it was time for him to go. They replaced him with artists, and that changed the mood of the show. Everyone was positive, encouraging, and empowering. However, the two winners they produced haven't had any real success in the marketplace. For Idol to work, you need some hard critics who can tell a contestant they need to go home. Otherwise, it's just another version of The Voice. So if I'm a producer on Idol, I'm now looking for celebrity judges who aren't worried about alienating their fan bases, as Tyler & J-Lo were. The Voice has artist mentors. To me, that means Idol needs something else.

I don't watch this show, but since you all seem to more or less agree Tyler and Lopez leaving is a good thing, next question for you all is:

Who would you like to see fill those chairs? ???

J-Lo also has handed in her notice. This is for those of you who do watch American Idol.
with the LAME "Pick" this year, it PROVES the "Judges" don't know a damn thing about talent. J-Lo is SO FULL OF HERSELF it was Sickening to watch, tyler was Comic relief... the problem with the panel was it was too much of a "Love Fest", they needed to be HONEST & tell people THEY SUCKED! IF THEY DID..

They'd be better off replacing Steven and J-Lo with Statler and Waldorf at this point. ::)

Personally I don't watch that show or anything close to it. I just mentioned J-Lo leaving because I read about it in the newspaper.

These types of programs don't interest me in the least. They could have Captain Crunch as a judge for all I care.
