Stevie B arrested for unpaid child support

From MassLive.com:

Springfield police: Dance music performer 'Stevie B' busted during MassMutual concert for hefty child support debt

Stevie B, one of the featured acts at a Friday night concert at the MassMutual Center, ended up behind bars early Saturday after he was arrested for owing $420,000 in unpaid child support to an Agawam woman, authorities said.

The dance music star was at the downtown Springfield arena as part of the Freestyle 2011 -- Strictly Rush Tour: Stevie B, Expose and Lisa Lisa.

$420,000?!?!?! DAMN!!!

All this took place at a freestyle concert, of all places.

"I got the letter from the postman just the other day
It said I owe you nearly a half-million in child support
I crumpled the letter up and threw it away,
and now I'm in the pokey."

When this story broke out over the weekend it seemed rather strange. Given the fact that he has performed in Massachusetts plenty of times in the last few years. As they say there is no such thing as bad publicity.

A lot of people were discussing it on facebook around 2-3pm on Saturday. I wasn't sure if the story was big enough that many people would eventually find out about it to the point it would be brought up here, though.

The story has picked up since the weekend when it made TMZ even though the news cycle is slower. ABC,CBS,Fox News,Washington Post has all covered it.The Daily Mail (UK) broke it overseas. I hope this is not a publicity stunt since I did hear he was going to release an updated current sounding 2012 version of Spring Love this week.

Wow, so after all this time, he's still big enough for organizations like ABC, CBS, FOX, and even TMZ to discuss about? I doubt they would break that type of news unless they felt that it would at least be somewhat relevant to the public.

It's funny that you brought up "publicity stunt" because I was ALMOST on the verge of getting into that topic in my last post, but figured it probably wasn't appropriate in regard to this topic since I was completely unaware of his plans on releasing any new material in the near future. Besides, would this be a good publicity stunt, or would it cause backlash?

It's true - people love to find things to complain, talk, gossip, or be unhappy about, and anything that provides an opportunity to do any of those things will attract people, but it depends on HOW its done. Example;
***The facebook changes: This caused people to get upset and start whining and complaining, ready to commit suicide, and swear up and down they'd never come back to fb, YET during the day and week of the changes, I never saw more people on facebook and I've never seen more posts! (In addition to that, if fb never changed, everybody would've been gone to the next big thing talking about "facebook got old".) In this case, "p*ssing people off worked, and Facebook and advertisers benefited off of that type of "stunt" with HIGH numbers.
***"Stevie B. getting arrested.... FOR OWING CHILD SUPPORT": Yes, this type of stunt will also attract attention and arouse gossip and emotional feelings, but it is more on a human nature emotional level that personally connects with people's beliefs and experiences! In this case, it most likely would have more of the "Dixie Chicks, boycott effect", or cause people to react the same way they did towards the Kanye West Mic grabbing incident.

Both situations will be attractive and get attention because it arouses the desire to complain, talk, gossip, and be unhappy about something - which we all tend to love to do from time to time, but only one of the situations will cause a backlash - due to the "human nature effect" of the entire situation, where family connection, parenting, scandal, and finances come in to play. Many people personally relate (and have personal emotions tied to) relationships, fidelity, and child support..etc. issues, and that could have a negative effect on anyone who attempts to use that as a publicity stunt.

"Facebook Changes... Balloon Boy... Rebecca Black..... rappers beefing... Lady Gaga releasing Judas and wearing meet... etc." those things are neutral emotional stirrers. "Child support, owing someone money, kids with separate women... ...or even Kanye West personally stealing a Mic from a little girl's moment of fame on stage... etc." NEGATIVE emotional stirrers!

Hopefully this was not a publicity stunt..... it's the wrong type of "bad boy / come back image".

Well, the reality is that "Because I Love You" was a big mainstream hit for him back in the 90's, so in that sense Stevie B was a big deal for his time, not just for freestyle fans but for America.
