Stew Schantz passed away

Abraham Stewart Schantzenberg and his big giant pantsennberg

For what it's worth, in October of 2005 JR Gach and I broke the 4th wall and Rated Stewies voicetracks along with listener calls on what to call Big Stews Show on FiveDollarFreakShow.com

I worked with Stew and was lucky enough to have him as my boss!

Stew died from complications due to an operation. He had been at WBEC-WUPE the past few years as the Operations Manager and was loved by everyone in that building. This came completely by surprise. One of the true nice guys in our business and everybody liked working with. A real loss.

THAT's the memorial page? That's all of it?! Seriously?

from wupe.com:

"IN MEMORIAM OF STEW SCHANTZ. 09/03/1956-06/11/2010"

I hope they didn't agonize too long over whether or not to use caps lock.

I remember Stew Shantz when he was PD at WSPK's "K-104" back in the 90's when he did mornings right before Mark Bolger took over. He was great at "K-104" back when he first started back in 1981.

I also have an aircheck of him when he was a guest on Vassar College's WVKR back in 1996 where they did he station's 20th anniversary show. I will post an aircheck of the whole show soon.

RIP :-(

Unfortunately when you are trying to do 6 jobs to keep yours it isn't always possible to hit the gym.

Stew was a great guy... RIP.

Stew was one of the few you inspired me to get into this biz. Always loved him whether on PDH or K. Sorry to hear the news.

Stew was the greatest! He should be remembered as one of the "founding fathers" of WPDH. He programmed WPDH during the 1980's when the station really took off, and had some of it's best ratings ever (A 17 share 12+, at one point, iirc). Stew also started, and did the first "Roof A Thon". The tradition continues today! He was part of the first morning team on WPDH, too.

RIP Stew, we will miss ya!
