Stew Byars, a veteran West Tennessee broadcaster died over the weekend. Stu was a talented individual whose creativity is rarely seen anymore He had been battling liver cancer for a couple of years. Throughout his struggle, Stu remained positive, upbeat and perfectly willing to play the hand that he had been dealt. All who ever worked with him recognized his immense passion for radio and his willingness to go the extra mile to make something work.

Never worked with him...talked with him on a few occasions...even enjoyed his tv show on the local PBS channel in Weakley County.

God Bless Stewart!

When I saw Stu's name as the subject of a thread, I figured he had probably died. :'( I never knew him, but I was familiar with his work. My condolences to his family. Just as it has been with the Cawleys, the Byars family has also known their share of tragedy in recent years.

Sad to hear. I worked with Stewart in Union City for a few years. He was a truly talented individual with a tremendous sense of humor. He had a whole cast of Morning Show characters the most popular of which was the easily confused "Lewis".
I also remember going down to Jackson one weekend and watching Stew at a comedy club. He was the opening act and a pretty fair stand-up comic.

I worked with Stew for years at KYTN(in the early days) and again at WCMT. Stew was a good friend and an inspiration to work with. He will be missed.

I worked with Stu at WDSG radio in Dyersburg in early 80s. He was a great guy and will be missed in the UnionCity/Martin area.
