Word has it Davidson Media is shopping WNTS around for a buyer. The numbers I've heard are pretty low-ball. They must want out of Indy in a hurry. Heard anymore about this?

Could I buy it and turn in the license? Seriously, if we're talking something under a quarter-million...

The Mexican market/format died when the economy did. I have been told this is a measurable population loss in economic impact.

They paid 1.2 million? What IS the price? Low ball to me means 50k. I would still debate the value of that. I have to imagine the real estate is the only real money involved, and, being across the street from a former housing project filled with rats this isn't Eagle Creek.

Actually, they paid $2mil for it. Depending on what it's doing now, you might be able to pick it up for a quarter mil. I never understood Davidson's business plan. He bought up these stations just to turn around and LMA them. Why would you make your success dependent on the success of others?

According to the Indy Star there is an influx of Somalians right now. Maybe an all Somalian format would work.
A Smulyan once owned 1590...

I agree. 1590 on the AM dial? The owner should pay someone to take it off his hands. It's also located next to former railyards & former grain elevators.

For years the station had a religious program format & played Southern Gospel music. Jim Wilson was the GM & was a great guy. Then Smulyan sold it & it went downhill.

I go back even before Smulyan owned it....to the days when it was WGEE...."The Parade of Hits" owned by Rollins Inc. out of Atlanta. While I was there, Rollins spun off WGEE-FM (103.3)which was also located at 4800 E. Raymond at the time to the owners of WIRE-1430 who relabled the FM, WXTZ-103.3 with easy listening music. WIRE operated their new FM for a brief time from the Raymond Street location before moving it out in the middle of the night to it's new location at Channel 13's tower up around 96th and Ditch Rd. WGEE AM was sold shortly thereafter to Milt Lewis (real name: Milt Bohard) who had been the GM under Rollins ownership. Milt was a major player in Indy Radio at the time (WIRE et al) and all-around nice guy to work for! Milt changed the call-letters and made 1590 a country station for a short-time before rebranding as a news-talk station with the WNTS call (News Talk Sports). David Letterman actually had an afternoon talk show for a brief time there around 1972-73. Long-time Indy DJ, Bob Todd was the PD when I was there in the very early 1970's. Nice memories for me, although the station was never really successful during this time period...
