Sticky: How about 2006...

My predictions for local radio in 2006 are...

1. Citadel will finally dump the Score and put a simulcast of Hot 106 on 99.7
2. 92 PRO FM will realize they are not a rock station (they currently play a ton of rock).
3. 102.7 will become 102.7 The Bay playing smooth jazz.
4. Coast 93.3 becomes Z93.3, the dance station we never had.
5. Lite Rock 105 changes their name to 105 The Elevator to match the music they play.
6. B101 becomes Classic Hits 101 and plays hits of the 60's, 70's and 80's.
7. HJY stays the same.
8. 103.7 WEEI FM stays the same.
9. 99.3 Swing FM stays the same.<P ID="signature">______________

---Good call!

---I think there may be 3 people who speak Portuguese that are in 102.7's coverage area right now. The smooth jazz idea is a good idea, or even a AAA or AC station that serves southern RI.

> 4. Coast 93.3 becomes Z93.3, the dance station we never had.

---What about 100.3, THAAAAA Beat!

---They might go with "Big 101", even though there's nothing wrong with "B101."

Oh yeah! I forgot about The Beat. I really liked that station. I would love to have a dance station again in Providence. Seems like most of our local stations only care about rock music. We already have HJY and BRU but why are 92 PRO FM and Coast 93.3 playing mostly rock? They really sound like wanna-be rock stations. This city doesn't need anymore rock music on the radio.

100.3 - Club Hits "100.3 The Beat"
101.5 - Oldies
102.7 - Extreme Talk (ie FreeFM)
103.7 - WEEI-FM
105.1 - Lite 105 AC

I hope to see Citadel dump the Score altogether. With WEEI-FM gaining the Red Sox next season, I just do not see how the Score can compete with such a powerhouse that has superior talent.

PRO-FM should keep the Alternative, but play some more mainstream Rap and R&B.

> 4. Coast 93.3 becomes Z93.3, the dance station we never had.

I disagree. There is room for a traditional AC in this market, and Coast, for better or worse, is the answer. While they are following the nationwide "variety" trend, I don't see Coast abandoning its longtime format.

I agree with the sentiment!

> 6. B101 becomes Classic Hits 101 and plays hits of the 60's,

This is essentially what they already are.

> 7. HJY stays the same.

I hope so. For all the Geoff Charles bashers on this board, I still think he has one of the best PM Drive shows in the market.

> 8. 103.7 WEEI FM stays the same.

Remember, they get the Red Sox in the spring. Anyone else think they might ultimately dump Michael Holley as well?

Re: My predictions for local radio in 2006 are...

You're preditions for 100.3 and 102.7 will never happen as long as Davidson Media Group still owns them. Further more I hear that they're having success with Latina 100.3 FM.

99.7 would have to go with ESPN Radio since Sporting News Radio is already on 1320 WARL.

My predictions for 2006:

A hurricane will appear out of nowhere and destroy 990 The WALE. Then it will quickly disappear not causing any other damage.

The ADD Radio Group will sell WARL.
