Still no info

A few weeks ago I posted a message about how 92.3 still has no info about iggy on their website despite the fact that he's been the new night dj for a few months now. I thought maybe whoever does the 92.3 website would see the message and get the info up.

Also I think its time they did another silent but deadly promotion. However they should only do it during Fenix's shift. Most dj's get better as time goes on. Fenix is getting worse and worse everytime I hear him. Thank god he's only on for a few hours on the weekends. Verlane wasn't that much better when he first started but he has improved tremendously. I'd rather have Verlane as the night guy instead of Iggy.

I'm done bitchin. Have a great day people.

another WXTM question

I have seen WXTM and WMMS as very similar (almost the same), but based on the statement below it looks like 92X is looking to redefine itself.
I know the imaging was tweaked in the recent past (92X-Cleveland'sExtreme Radio) and the playlist has had some additions, but who is Kim Monroe trying to appeal to? I personally like the changes, but are they sustainable? Is this a move to Alternative or is this just lip service to try to shift perception about the station.

...btw, should this question be in OA's Infinity speculation thread?...

From AllAccess.com:
"WXTM PD KIM MONROE explains, "The premise of `WHAT’S NEXT FEST’ is a showcase of artists that are up and coming along with our radio station that is re-birthing itself by embracing a much broader musical base. This is the place that you can hear SYSTEM OF A DOWN and COLDPLAY, as well as new cuts from 311 and emerging new artists like HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS."

So pretty much artists they SHOULD be playing on their format. Kim is familiar with 311, isn't she? She makes it sound like they're some obscure indie group that's never realeased a tune in their career.

Ya know Mike...it's usually alot more effective if you take your message straight to THEM instead of putting it on some forum assuming they'll see it...

to hear what's next, go further left (on your radio dial)

This is a good example of how far commercial stations are behind college stations (when it comes to new music) in this area. Area college stations (especially 88.3) 6 months ago were playing Hawthone Heights. Maybe even longer. Also you want to hear SOAD and Coldplay, again 88.3 (and other college stations) has had that kind of diversity for a long time now. But, I guess it's been like that for a while, and probably will always be like that.

Yes, but now 88.3 has a signal that can give 92.3 a run for its money. If only more of the population at-large knew about it. Those like us, and devoted rock followers know about The Sting...but does Joe Average New Rock Listener? (Real last name.. he lives next to me. I've gotten his mail.)

WBWC has always been ahead of the curve on new alternative music. Even in the days of "107.9 The End." But isn't that the role of collge stations like WBWC? We are extremely fortunate to have this station here (pun intended).
Student run, college supported stations have the luxury of playing music just outside (or very outside) the mainstream. Will 92.3 grow or at least remain viable with this playlist? If so, can it survive once Kim Monroe moves on to a bigger market?

Glad you mentioned that - ever since I left Cleveland for Pittsburgh last year - the one thing I keep missing is the college radio. 91.1, 89.3, 88.7, 88.3, 88.9, 88.1 is the best non-comm FM preset row anyone could ask for. I don't know of any other city that has the luxury of two non-comm alt-rockers (WSTB and WBWC), two off-the-wall block programmers (WCSB and WRUW), and one ('JCU) that's right in the middle.

I'll never forget when WBWC played "Femme Fatale" by the Velvet Underground, followed by a Godsmack song.

I know some people who have shows on 'JCU - they have the FCC approval for their power increase, but they don't have the money for the new transmitter yet. Hope they get it soon - if past summers are any indication, 89X out of Windsor is blowing them away 500 feet away from the JCU campus right about now (I can hear 89X in the North Hills of Pittsburgh on a daily basis, lately!) I've actually broadcasted on WJCU a few times as a fill-in (or walk-in, to certain radio shows) and was supposed to get a weekly show there, before I moved out of state...

Re: to hear what's next, go further left (on your radio dial)

When is she leaving??? It will be so nice to get someone who knows music instead of just adding for what her ever growing smaller circle of label friends ask her to!
