Still NO WRUF-FM Websites...

It's already been a few weeks since the WRUF-FM format flip, and there is still no audio stream for the online version of Rock 104 planned for Rock104.Com. Additionally the terrestrial WRUF-FM 103.7 has no website at all. When I type country1037.com in the browser, I'm only getting "Site Coming Soon!" It's been this way for weeks.

In the meantime I'm sure all, or most, of the former Rock 104 listeners have already identified alternative sources for their rock listening pleasure.

Here's a thought, drop the "Buzz" moniker and call it "Rock 1005", Gainesville's pure Rock, Gainesville's only rock station, Rockin North Central Florida, Florida's best rock, etc.....

Love it, but Gainesville/Ocala still needs a strong Active Rocker. Monikers like "buzz, mix, x" all imply alternative. How about 92.9 flip and call it Rock 929? Same with KZY or 99.5. Call it Rock 1069, or Rock 995. You brand it "Rock" and this may lead to early success. "The Buzz" although sounding good, I wonder about the brand of this lower powered FM.

Using the "Rock" moniker in the same way "Rock 104" does may result in a lawsuit, as UF still uses the branding, albeit online only.

I'm happy to see the country1037.com website is finally up and running. The audio stream is a big plus in promoting the new station. Hopefully as time goes by and the station build momentum, more content will be added to the website. Good Job, UF and WRUF-FM.

I heard Program Director Ron Brooks on-air during afternoon drive this past Monday. He sounded great during the short period of time I listened. Additionally, the morning show with "Big Stew" Sawyer and Audrie Lynn is forthcoming if the morning duo has not already started.

Boo, hiss. Bring back Rock 104!!!! I remember when Harry Guscott pulled a shift too.

I remember Harry Guscott hosting afternoon drive for years on WRUF-AM, later hosting PM drive on WRUF-FM. Harry did a great job with both stations, especially Rock 104.

He got to pick his own tunes too. Cart decks and two turntables.....gotta love the Mark 2 Technics and Ortofon p Mount cartriges.

I'm about to show my age, but I remember very well playing 45s and LPs as a music source while playing jingles, liners and commercials on Fidelipac or Audiopak carts from a 3M, ITC, Spotcasters or Ampex cart playback units - on a highly rated AM station before FM become the dominant radio medium. And, same as Harry, we chose our own playlist and had much discetion in how we played certain songs and the order each song was played. The very first station where I worked, we used Rusco and Sparta tunrtables, and a Gates Yard II mixing board, transmitted from a Collins transmitter, and all heard on a Philco Ford or GM Delco AM car radio. Those were, indeed, the days.

When I worked at Rock 104 we had an old Gates dial board with dirty pots. If you cranked up the monitors (speakers were mounted in the back, not in the front) the tunes on the turntables would skip. The vibrations were great. Turntables weren't even mounted, just sitting on the counter. Blue or red carts?

I used both red and later blue Audiopak carts. Fidelipac were grey and 3Ms were black and brown.

I remember the Rock 104 monitors mounted in the back of the control studio. I never worked for WRUF, but I did have a meeting with someone there when Rock 104 first went on the air. The day of my meeting, Harry Guscott was on the air, and I remember seeing those monitors and thinking how unique the way the studio was laid out.

At one of my earlier AM stations where I was PD for the first time, our tunrtables were directly in front with the Gates Yard II rotary pot board above the turntables... The cart playback units were above the board and the cart rack was above the cart playback units. Records were to the left side and went around the back of the room except for the current hits which were in a special slot next to the turntables.

The mic for the co-host right next to the studio door. I loved the card system and the "honor" system and all the songs that were dayparted......ugh, no Zeppelin before 3pm, no Ozzy until after 7pm.....
