Still Waiting

Curious that WEDG Buffalo has yet to hire a program director to replace Kerry Grey. Is the company simply waiting to see how the fall book shakes out before making any decisons? Seems like a long time to wait before making a decision.

"Evil Jim" is looking after an awful lot at that station isn't he? Would he be a good choice for pd if he were to drop another job title? He appears to be the temporrary pd right now, along with morning show production and MD duties...wow! what a trooper! An awful big work load though.<P ID="signature">______________

I heard things were going nice and smooth with evil Jim at the helm.
If that's the case, why hurry ??

I agree Orban, but there are some stresses that may be too difficult to handle in the long run, if at least one job title isn't dropped.

Speaking of Waiting...

What's the status of Shredd & Ragan? Isn't their contract up soon? I thought there was some discussion of them in regards to the post-Howard scenario a few months back.

If The Edge loses Shredd & Ragan, could a format change be in the wind? Maybe that's why they're not in a hurry to hire a new PD. "New Rock" isn't exactly setting the world on fire as a format in other markets these days.

That's interesting. Didn't consider the possibility of a format flip. Good point about Active-New Rock. Seems a lot of stations around the country have dropped or modified that format. Question is, what would they change the format to? Everthing seems to be taken. Don't think Citadel would make a format change.

WEDG has heritage. Although it's been taking some heat, it's a good complement to 97 rock. Is WEDG's wobble the result of Gray's leadership. Is it the music? The state of the available music? Or was it the PD?

Good point about Shredd & Ragan. One wonders what would happen if they took off.

Re: Speaking of Waiting...

Doubtful they would change formats, if even just to protect 97 Rock (they certainly made WBUF's foray into the rock arena a non-starter). There is plenty of great new music out there...perhaps the addition of non-alternative recurrents has hurt them slightly? Even so the numbers are still there (and are quite good for a new rock station in an aging community).

If a change is in the works (which I doubt), you can bet CKEY would flip in a heartbeat (alternative/new rock is much more Can-Con friendly than CHR). Could it be the return of "The Planet"?

Would hate to see the frequency known for new rock in Buffalo (save it's brief life as "The Fox") go another way.
