Stolen Broadcast Gear

I look around on eBay sometimes and marvel at the used processors, exciters, STLs, etc. that I see there.I'm sure many of these items are listed legitmately - maybe they belonged to a small town station and the mom and pop owner just wanted to sell them, but many of them you just have to wonder. I saw an auction on eBay the other day for an Optimod 8100 studio chassis, and the seller said he had "no idea what it does." How does an 8100 studio chassis end up in the hands of someone who has "no idea what it does?"The same thing holds true for composite clippers, exciters, STLs, etc. I've seen lots of auctions posted by people who claim to no nothing about the gear they're selling - and when I see one of those, it just screams STOLEN to me.Do you take this into consideration when buying gear on eBay or do you really care?

Also a red flag for buyer beware. The seller knows something is technically wrong with the item listed,so he appears to have no knowledge of even it's use.In reality,he knows more than what he states.
